Deshaun Watson Trade: Real or Rumor?

I know that everyone’s eyes are on the NFL Playoffs right now. We just capped off an exciting Super Wild Card weekend, and we have three weeks of football left to go. However, even though these playoff games affect dynasty value, there’s no bigger dynasty story right now than a potential Deshaun Watson trade. Let’s jump into the full story!

Super Wild Card Weekend Storylines: Saturday

I love writing these storyline pieces. Now that we’ve hit the playoffs, I want to cover all the games, bringing you at least something to think about when you watch the playoffs. Even though playoffs don’t count for our fantasy teams, playoff performances can have massive effects on future dynasty value. This piece will give you something specific to look for in each contest, which I hope helps you enjoy the games even more. We all play fantasy football to enhance our enjoyment of football, and I’m trying to add to that sense of happiness here. Fun is the most essential part of this hobby for all of us, including me. I’ve listed the home team first for each game to keep things organized. For this week, I’ll cover the Saturday games in one article and the Sunday games in another. I won’t waste any more time, so let’s jump straight in!

Draft Stock Watch: Bowl Week 1

Each week I will bring you the latest updates and NFL buzz surrounding college players that should prove to be integral to future fantasy success. I will utilize recent statistics, performance and film, and general “front office whispers” to compile the intel I share with you. My hope is to provide you with a leg up on your opponents. You will know which devy players to target in trades and/or in what range of draft picks (both NFL and fantasy drafts) you can expect these players to be selected.

Dynasty Next Steps

In this article, I want to give dynasty owners a quick guide on what they should do now that the fantasy season is behind us. There will not be any specific trade or player recommendations in this article. I want to elucidate my process for beginning the offseason and pass that on to my readers. Let’s jump right into Step 1!

NFC West: Divisional Nuggets

At this point, I’ve turned on Russell Wilson as a dynasty asset. He completed 20/32 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown, although he saved his day with a rushing touchdown. However, Wilson is already 32 years old, so fantasy owners cannot rely on high rushing production forever. Wilson hasn’t thrown for more than 300 yards since Week 9, and he has only 10 touchdowns in those seven games.

Week 17 Streamers: Bonus Content

In this streaming article, I will provide you the best weekly options to stream quarterback, tight end, and D/ST. In each section, I’ll break down two streamers in detail, both of which will be under 50% owned, according to ESPN’s ownership percentage at the time of writing. Playing the matchups is a crucial feature of redraft fantasy football, and especially in a crazy 2020 season, active fantasy owners will have a massive advantage.

For Week 17, this is purely bonus content. I genuinely hope that none of you are playing championships in Week 17. However, I’ll give some quick streamers if you haven’t fixed that setting in your leagues yet.

Rookie Stock Market: Week 15

Congratulations! I hope this applies to a lot of y’all, as I believe my readers are educated and smart fantasy players who have made it to the finals of their leagues. My overall percentage of teams in the playoffs is down compared to normal, but 2020 has been nothing but normal right? Like last week, we had several big-time rookie performances in Week 15. Jalen Hurts was the top-scoring player across all positions, and Justin Herbert was QB6. D’Andre Swift was RB10, Jonathan Taylor was RB15, Brandon Aiyuk was WR6, CeeDee Lamb WR11, and Justin Jefferson WR16. So if you rostered and played these rookies, you’re happy you did! Like the past two weeks, in addition to the normal stuff I cover here, I will be adding a Week 16 Playoff Spin for each rookie I touch on today. Let’s get into it!

Fantasy Football Championship Primer

I’ve brought so much weekly content to the table this season for DFF. I’ve had streamers, divisional nuggets, risers and fallers, one week ahead, and storylines, among other pieces. Now, we’ve reached Week 16, fantasy championship week for almost all leagues. As a side note, if your league plays into Week 17, stop that. Many NFL teams play their backups in the last week of the season, and you don’t want your title decided by backups. With that PSA out of the way, let’s move into why I’m writing this column. I want to discuss the meaning of fantasy football. If you’re playing for a championship this week, I’m curious what motivates you to go out and win the title. Is it money, pride, or something else?

AFC South: Divisional Nuggets

Ryan Tannehill had an excellent game. He completed 21/27 of his passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns, and he also added three carries for 21 yards and two rushing touchdowns. I currently rank Tannehill as my dynasty QB11. He’s locked into his current situation through 2022, and I don’t see him slowing down. I’m perfectly comfortable with Tannehill as my QB1 in a 1QB league and my QB2 in Superflex leagues.

NFC South: Divisional Nuggets

All of the receivers of relevance are on contract for next season, but it’s more of a question of who will be throwing to them? Michael Thomas has practically taken this year off, and I am sure we will see him emerge during the playoffs to remind people of his talent. Sanders has not been able to really step up in Thomas’s absence and the others have been injured as well off and on. Hope for a rebound with a better passer at QB next year, but if you can get a good return for Thomas I would consider it after this disappointing season.

Against the Spread: NFL Week 16

Let’s start things off with a little Christmas Day action, shall we?

The Saints are one of the most complete teams in the NFC, while the Minnesota Vikings have made Teddy Bridgewater, Mike Glennon, and even Mitchell Trubisky look like franchise quarterbacks in recent weeks. Drew Brees may have started off slow in his return from injury, but he ultimately finished with three passing touchdowns against the Chiefs. Look for the Saints to roll.

Raiding the IDP Waiver Wire: Week 16

This has been by far the most challenging season of sit/start decisions I’ve encountered in my years of fantasy football. Those of you in championship games and toilet bowls alike should take a moment to reflect on a challenging season, pat yourself on the back for your grit, and know that lessons learned this year will prepare you well for in-season roster management next year and beyond. If you’ve decided best-ball is your jam for 2021, I fully support you!

Week 16 Streamers

This is my final real week of streaming coverage. I’ve loved bringing you this article each week for two straight seasons, and it’s sad that the 2020 version will end soon. I’ll probably throw something together for Week 17 as bonus coverage, but we should all move to Week 16 championships. Deciding your fantasy title in Week 17 is silly. With that said, let’s jump into the streamers!

AFC North: Divisional Nuggets

Every week, I’m going to break down an entire division, focusing on their play on the field that week. Specifically, I’ll go through each team and focus on their dynasty assets, especially anybody who suffered injuries or a massive value change. I won’t look at any player or team in too much detail. This article is more of a summary piece. I also included links to all my previous divisional nuggets articles at the bottom of the page. With that said, let’s jump right in!

Week 15 Streamers

Remember my looking ahead to Week 15 article? If you scroll to the bottom, I begged you to pick up Jalen Hurts in advance of Week 15. I didn’t think he would be a fantasy star against the Saints, and I even made a charity bet that he wouldn’t be a top-12 quarterback. Well, I was wrong. Hurts currently sits as the QB8 for the week with only two quarterbacks to go, meaning that he will definitely be a QB1 in Week 14. Hurts completed 17/30 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown while losing a fumble. However, he dominated on the ground, taking 18 carries for 106 yards.

Devy Breakout Player of the Week

The college football regular season concluded this weekend, and we now head into conference championship week. As we await the bowl game invitations we can look back on a great season. The incredibly high number of opt-outs this year opened the door for many underclassmen to have opportunities at Power Five programs that they otherwise would not have. There are some storylines that transcend the sporting event; Michael Jordan hitting ‘the shot’, Mike Tyson biting off Evander Holyfield’s ear, and the base hit that rolled right through Bill Buckner’s legs. The game of the weekend will likely be remembered as the shoe toss, but I will remember it as the day that a young LSU wide receiver arrived.

Rookie Stock Market: Week 13

This marks two weeks in a row that Cam Akers has made it into the risers. That’s a good look, especially for a rookie that had a relatively rocky start to the season. Week 13 brought Akers a season-high in total yardage, touches, and snap %. In addition to the increased workload, Week 13 marks the third week in a row that Akers has found his way into the end zone. The increase in usage could be attributed to Darrell Henderson Jr. briefly leaving the game with a knee injury, but nonetheless, it is great to see the second-round pick finally get a real workload and look good doing so. I think what is most noteworthy from Week 13 is the usage of Malcolm Brown. Despite Henderson going down with a knee injury, Malcolm Brown saw a season-low in snap rate with just 16%. Does this mark the end of an era? Has Sean McVay finally realized Brown has no juice? Did he finally take a look at box scores and see Malcolm Brown’s longest run on the year is for 19 yards? I think the past few weeks, Akers has proven his worth, and McVay and company are ready to truly get him involved in the offense.

Against the Spread: NFL Week 14

For the ATS (against the spread) articles, I will provide analysis on three bets that I feel have the best chance at netting you a nice payday. Whether it be due to matchups, injuries, or other factors, these are the three bets I feel the most confident in placing. I will also make predictions on the rest of the week’s spreads. We’ve hit the triple-digit mark on our overall wins and have a win % of just over 50%. We’ll look to improve on that in the weeks to come!
