Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down: Philadelphia Eagles

Welcome back to the “Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down” series (off-season edition). Free agency has been absolutely chaotic! We as Dynasty Managers need to be evaluating the off-season transactions and thinking about our roster adjustments. Who are we going to target in rookie drafts? Who are we going to go out and trade for? Who are we willing to give up in return? Will you go all-in this season to bring home a championship? Or should you go young and prepare for the future? There’s so much to think about before September. The “off-season edition” of this series is an early look at whose stock is up and whose stock is down as we head into draft season. We will break down each NFL team one by one. Today is all about the Philadelphia Eagles. 

STOCK UP – DALLAS GOEDERT

What an off-season it’s been so far. It’s only March, and it seems like this has been the craziest free agency period we’ve EVER SEEN! For Philadelphia, not a lot has happened, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Boston Scott was resigned, and the Eagles brought in receiver Zach Pascal. But that’s about it. When we think of players with tremendous upside for the Eagles offense, the first name that should come to mind is Dallas Goedert. He’s quietly becoming a consistent low-tier TE1 in fantasy, with opportunities of becoming a top-eight player at his position. Am I saying he’s the next Travis Kelce or Mark Andrews? No. Is his ceiling higher than Kyle Pitts? Absolutely not. But can he be more reliable than TJ Hockenson? Of course. 

Philadelphia believes in his potential, and that’s a large part of why the team traded away Zach Ertz in the middle of last season. In the 10 games Goedert played without Ertz, he hauled in 41 of his 57 receptions for 614 yards and two touchdowns. During that same span, he served as the TE5 in PPR leagues. Imagine what he could do in a full season without Ertz. What makes Goedert even more intriguing for dynasty leagues is his age and contract. He’s only 27 years old, and the Eagles have him under contract until 2026. And the development of both Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith will make him better down the road. Another reason to be optimistic for Goedert is his low touchdown rate in 2021. He finished with only four receiving touchdowns on the entire season. Expect that number to go up, as he’s one of the top pass-catchers in the red zone for this team.

STOCK DOWN – JALEN REAGOR

I could’ve gone into depth about Miles Sanders here. The Eagles brought back Boston Scott, and Kenneth Gainwell hurts Sanders’ dynasty value as well. But I wanted to take a look at Jalen Reagor here in this section. Reagor is a former first-round pick (21st overall) from the 2020 NFL Draft. He played his college ball at TCU, and a ton of NFL scouts projected him to go after the first round. The Eagles surprisingly drafted him over the likes of Justin Jefferson, Tee Higgins, and Michael Pittman Jr. Their sixth-round draft selection (Quez Watkins) has worked out better for them thus far. I’m not going to throw a ton of shade at him here, but if you know someone in your league that’s still high on his value, trade him for whatever you can get. 

Before DeVonta Smith was drafted, Reagor showed flashes on this team in 2020. He had a bit of an injury issue, but he managed to average just under three receptions, 36 receiving yards, and 12.8 yards per reception per game. Many believed that the Smith addition would open up more opportunities for Reagor in the middle of the field. That proved to be wrong as well. In six more games played than his rookie season, he only saw three more targets, he snagged two more receptions, and he hauled in 97 fewer receiving yards. He’s hard to roster right now, and many expect the Eagles to target another receiver or two in this year’s draft. As mentioned above, they brought in Zach Pascal, who can compete for snaps over Reagor. For a first-round selection to only produce 64 career receptions in 28 games played, he’s not worth it. You can be optimistic and think he takes the next step this season, but the Eagles rely on their run game. It’s going to be hard to see much production given out to a receiver who may find himself as the WR4 before the season starts.
