IDP Crystal Ball: Week 2

When conducting in-season weekly maintenance in your leagues, you should take advantage of IR spots and any opportunities to add players to your roster. You may have a player ruled out or on short-term IR that is eligible for your league’s IR list–utilize this! If you haven’t already, make sure you max out your taxi squad players with youngsters you like who are eligible to be placed on that list.

2021 Post-Hype Sleepers

It happens every year. Players get hyped during the offseason, and lofty expectations are set for them that coming season. Inevitably, several players will fail to meet those expectations and their value will fall, and leave a sour taste in your mouth. However, as a savvy fantasy player, you can use this to your advantage to identify undervalued players. Not every player who has failed to meet expectations will rebound, but if you put some thought into it, you can identify the ones that have a strong case for a bounce back.

The 2021 Definitive DFF BestBall League Guide

As with any league, the context is everything. Your author shares this brief disclaimer as both a reminder for your own best interest as an owner and as a primer to start this article. There are many important questions you need to know the answer to in order to correctly utilize actionable advice. Is the league redraft or dynasty? Are there 10 owners, 12 owners, 14 owners, 16 owners, or is it a multi-copy league? How many roster spots are there? Is it SuperFlex or TE premium or tiered PPR? Is it an IDP league? How many starters are in the lineup? Is the draft third-round reversal? Do you have taxi squads? Each of these questions plays a vital role in analysis within the realm of fantasy football. Before you boldly and blindly follow advice from a website or analyst, make certain you know the context with which the advice is shared.

2021 Projections: Kansas City Chiefs

Clyde Edwards-Helaire is a player that was hyped to Mars in the last off-season. I had been calling him a post-hype buy candidate all off-season so I was excited to see what my projections would have in store for him. In 2020 CEH had 45% of the team’s carries and that was with him missing three full games. So, in 2021 I have him projected for 50% of the team’s carries. I also gave him a 50% share of the rush TDs and a 10% target share. All of these comes together to make a 1,300 yard and 13 total TD season. One of CEH’s biggest issues last season was finding the endzone, I have him correcting this in a big way and seeing an elite TD floor. He is the main RB in the league’s most consistent offense. He should see a lot of TD opportunities this season.

DFF Draft Coverage: Nick Bolton to the Chiefs

Nick Bolton played in all 13 games as a true freshman where he recorded 22 tackles, one sack, and one TFL. He developed from promising up-and-comer to SEC defensive star in 2019, earning first-team all-conference honors after leading the league with 8.9 tackles per game (107 total, 8.5 for loss), intercepting two passes, and breaking up eight others in 12 starts.

Bears Running Backs: 2021 Fantasy Outlook

Earlier this week, the Chicago Bears signed Damien Williams to a one-year contract, bolstering their running back room. Williams was cut from the Kansas City Chiefs after opting out of last season. This addition should affect both David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen’s fantasy outlook for the upcoming NFL season. Let’s take a look at each player’s fantasy value in 2021.

Travis Kelce’s Age Is Not a Reason to Sell

I am fortunate enough to roster Travis Kelce in one of my dynasty leagues. Every offseason I wrestle with the idea of trading him away while I can maximize the value. Every offseason I decide I’ll hold him for just one more year. Playing the age game in a dynasty league is difficult, so I decided to dive into the historical performance of players age 30 or older at the tight end position. Here’s what I found.

Super Bowl LV: Path to Victory

I am sure that if you follow me on Twitter, (@FF_Derrick) it is no secret that I am a proud Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan. No, I did not board the ship at Raymond James Stadium in the summer of 2020 when Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady signed a two-year deal. I have been following the Buccaneers since my childhood. I promise to leave my love for my lifelong favorite team aside and give an honest evaluation of this Super Bowl.

Navigating Your Rookie Draft: 2021 Wide Receivers

Wide receiver is the position in which analysts have the most different inputs for analyzing prospects. This is because it is by far the hardest position to analyze, whether that be grinding film or navigating through advanced metrics. This is because the college game for wide receivers is so drastically different than how the position is played in the NFL. Wide receivers have less room to operate, they are hit at the line of scrimmage, and they are playing against more skilled and more athletic defenders than they ever have. In this segment, we will be exploring historical hit rates with draft capital and age as the only two components.

Week 16 Streamers

This is my final real week of streaming coverage. I’ve loved bringing you this article each week for two straight seasons, and it’s sad that the 2020 version will end soon. I’ll probably throw something together for Week 17 as bonus coverage, but we should all move to Week 16 championships. Deciding your fantasy title in Week 17 is silly. With that said, let’s jump into the streamers!

Rookie Stock Market: Week 13

This marks two weeks in a row that Cam Akers has made it into the risers. That’s a good look, especially for a rookie that had a relatively rocky start to the season. Week 13 brought Akers a season-high in total yardage, touches, and snap %. In addition to the increased workload, Week 13 marks the third week in a row that Akers has found his way into the end zone. The increase in usage could be attributed to Darrell Henderson Jr. briefly leaving the game with a knee injury, but nonetheless, it is great to see the second-round pick finally get a real workload and look good doing so. I think what is most noteworthy from Week 13 is the usage of Malcolm Brown. Despite Henderson going down with a knee injury, Malcolm Brown saw a season-low in snap rate with just 16%. Does this mark the end of an era? Has Sean McVay finally realized Brown has no juice? Did he finally take a look at box scores and see Malcolm Brown’s longest run on the year is for 19 yards? I think the past few weeks, Akers has proven his worth, and McVay and company are ready to truly get him involved in the offense.

AFC West: Divisional Nuggets

Darren Waller is arguably a top 3 tight end in fantasy football. While there could be some doubt about what changes if Carr is on his way out next year. What isn’t in doubt is the coaching staff for seven more seasons in Las Vegas. Henry Ruggs & Bryan Edwards are an all-in option. They will most likely have a new QB in 2021 and while they haven’t shown all that much to get excited about in 2020, the talent is there undoubtedly and the price has dropped enough to make them both acquirable after their offseason hype. Josh Jacobs has shown that this is what we are getting and, heading into the 2021 season, teams not contending should look to move the RB at what is likely to be peak value and performance before the holdout talk starts.

Week 13 Streamers

In this streaming article, I will provide you the best weekly options to stream quarterback, tight end, and D/ST. In each section, I’ll break down two streamers in detail, both of which will be under 50% owned, according to ESPN’s ownership percentage at the time of writing. Playing the matchups is a crucial feature of redraft fantasy football, and especially in a crazy 2020 season, active fantasy owners will have a massive advantage. Cousins is my top streamer for the week. He played an excellent game in Week 12 against the Panthers, despite Adam Thielen missing the game on the COVID-19 list. Cousins completed an excellent 34/45 passes for 307 yards and three touchdowns, including two to star rookie Justin Jefferson. Outside of Week 2 against the Colts and Week 8 against the Packers, Cousins has scored 14 or more fantasy points in four-point TD scoring, so he provides a safe floor.
