Rapid Reaction: Chase Edmonds Injury

Reports surfaced today that Cardinals running back Chase Edmonds suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 9 against the 49ers, per Adam Schefter on Twitter. Edmonds is expected to miss multiple games. As we saw with Broncos’ wide receiver Jerry Jeudy earlier this season, these injuries can take over a month to heal and have lingering effects on a player’s performance upon return. 2021 Dynasty Profile: Cordarrelle Patterson

Eighth-year breakout, anyone? Color me intrigued. At 30 years of age, Cordarrelle Patterson is not exactly your spring chicken in regards to NFL experience. A surprise first-round draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2013, Patterson attained recognition for his physical frame and athletic scores at the NFL Combine. Those with short memories may forget that the former Tennessee product entered the league boasting a 4.42/40-yard dash. At a hulking 6’2” and 227 lbs., Patterson harnessed the prototypical build to garner hope of a professional breakout. That presumption never came to fruition.

2021 Dynasty Profile: Darnell Mooney

After being selected 173rd overall in the fifth round of last year’s NFL Draft, Mooney emerged as one of the most productive wide receivers for the Chicago Bears QUICKLY. In the Bears’ Week 1 matchup against the Lions, he hauled in three receptions for 38 yards, but you could see the potential in him right away. 2021 Dynasty Profile: Michael Gallup

Michael Gallup’s college football career began at Butler Community College. As a freshman in 2014, he dominated the competition and led the team in receiving. Unfortunately, Gallup missed most of his sophomore season with an ankle injury before transferring to Colorado State University for his junior season. There, he posted back-to-back seasons of at least 1,250 yards. Gallup’s recorded breakout age of 20.5 is relatively late, but his 98th-percentile College Target Share and 75th-percentile College Dominator reflect a truly dominant finish to his college football career.

Film Study Guide: Scouting Elite Route-Runners

Film vs Analytics is one of the contested debates in the fantasy community. Both are important and one hand washes the other. Scouting and watching film are the foundation of evaluating talent. If data was the only indicator of success, NFL scouts wouldn’t need a scouting department. They would hire a Google Intern to run algorithms for them. On the flip side, data can help you make unbiased decisions and adjust your rankings by having a macro-level view of a pool of statistics. It’s important to understand what coaches look at on the field or in training camp because they decide if a player will even see the field. Not your algorithm. Moreover, learning scouting and theory can help you understand why players perform the way they do and what makes your data sing or choke.
