Narrative irony is one of the more underrated elements of professional sports leagues. In a poetically hilarious move, the Dallas Cowboys recently acquired journeyman receiver Brandin Cooks from the Houston Texans. The deal is eerily similar to a move made last offseason by Dallas, in which star receiver Amari Cooper was shipped off in a cap dump trade for an almost identical package of draft picks. Thus, this move is seemingly a downgrade talent-wise, as well as an admittance that moving on from Cooper in 2022 was the wrong decision. It should come as no surprise that last year’s Heisman winner slots in at the top of the QB Devy list. Caleb Williams is a special talent that has his skills fully on display last year at USC. Had he been healthy toward the end of the season USC would’ve easily secured a playoff birth. But alas, that was not meant to be. Williams is a QB that can do magnificent things on a football field and he should dominate the NCAA again in 2023.

Marvin Mims burst onto the scene as a freshman at Oklahoma with a stellar season of 610 yards and nine touchdowns. This put him squarely into the conversation as one of the top wide receivers in the 2023 draft class. Mims is a big play threat. His 20.1 yards per reception were the third most in the country for 2023. For PPR formats, he is not the most desirable archetype of a wide receiver. His reception totals are relatively low and this can lead to inconsistency in his game-to-game performance. In dynasty best ball formats he is of more interest.

It’s combine week! Time for all of our favorite prospects to compete in the underwear olympics. If you talk to different people, you will get different answers on just how meaningful the combine is. NFL scouts look for traits and this helps them determine that on a comparable scale. Here are the biggest winners from this week in Indianapolis and how it effects your preparation for dynasty rookie drafts.

One of the most respected draft experts, Lance Zierlein, set off a Twitter firestorm this week when he placed Jalin Hyatt as his first wide receiver off the board, 12th overall, in his first mock draft.
He states:

When we loosely compare players, most people feel they have a good idea of what kind of production to expect. We may think “Amon-Ra St. Brown surely will see a decrease in production with health assets in 2022, I can’t draft him at cost.” But, this may be an overstated fallacy and ARSB is very draftable this year. I make projections to ground myself and help to understand what is actually possible, probable, or realistic.
