As the 2023 collegiate season comes to a close with another momentous bowl season, the 2024 NFL draft and subsequent dynasty rookie drafts are just around the corner. Today, I will highlight my top four RBs coming into the NFL draft as the RB market seems muddy with guys like Treveyon Henderson and Rocket Sanders choosing to remain in college.
Omarion Hampton went to Cleveland High School in Clayton, North Carolina. MaxPreps ranked Cleveland High School 10th in North Carolina during his senior season. Hampton totaled 1,948 yards on 161 carries; with that, he scored 39 rushing touchdowns. In the receiving game, he had 11 receptions with 272 yards and three receiving touchdowns. Across his four years in high school, he had only four fumbles. According to 247 Sports, as a recruit, Hampton ranked 134th overall, 11th as a running back, and third in North Carolina. According to Campus2Canton, his athletic profile finished in the 72nd percentile, with notable athletic comparisons to Darrel Williams and Chris Rodriguez.
This article will be centered around the incoming rookies, along with my current projections for where they will be taken in a Superflex startup draft. For flexibility, I have broken down the best of the rookies into tiers since we have to wait a while longer until we find out their NFL draft capital and team situations. Below, I have listed my current Superflex rankings with a tier break to separate each group of players. I will then take a deeper dive into each of the players listed to provide a better idea of where they (or their potential 2024 dynasty draft picks) should be considered throughout the DFF mock draft.
Kevin “KC” Concepcion, freshman WR from NC State, played his high school football at Julius L. Chambers High School in Charlotte, NC. KC was ranked a 3-star recruit on ESPN as the WR130 in his class. He was rated more highly on Rivals, earning a 4-star designation, and ranked as the WR53 overall. In his final two high school seasons, KC caught 65 passes for 977 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was also used as a rusher and special teams guy, finishing with 1,032 all-purpose yards as a senior. As a junior, KC returned three punts for touchdowns.
The Texas Longhorns have had an elite offense all season long, as confirmed by their 12-1 record, playoff bid, and 36.2 points per game. Much of this success can be attributed to their two junior wide receivers, Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell. Both players have lofty expectations waiting for them at the NFL level, but which player will end up becoming the better fantasy asset? Let’s discuss some numbers and help answer that question for you.
Born in Chatsworth, GA, Ladd McConkey, the 6-foot, 185 lbs wide receiver, is wrapping up his Junior season at the University of Georgia. McConkey redshirted his freshman season in 2020, spending time with the scout team before making a mark as a key player for the Georgia Bulldogs.
As an Arkansas Razorbacks fan, the recent news about Raheim “Rocket” Sanders brings a mix of sadness and excitement. Despite facing numerous challenges in the 2023 season, this 4-star recruit’s potential remains a beacon of hope for the future. Let’s delve into Sanders’ journey, the hurdles he faced, and what the future might hold for this dynamic running back.
Hailing from East St. Louis Senior High School in Illinois, Luther Burden entered the college scene with a reputation that preceded him. A 5-star recruit, he wasted no time making an impact. Over two high school seasons, Burden displayed his prowess by hauling in 101 passes for an eye-popping 1832 yards, punctuated by an impressive 23 touchdowns. His versatility knew no bounds as he seamlessly transitioned from being an offensive juggernaut to the team’s primary kickoff and punt specialist. High school stats, meticulously tracked by MaxPreps, showcased Burden’s multidimensional skill set as he returned 21 punts for an astounding 852 yards, finding the end zone on eight electrifying occasions.
In high school, McMillan was a two-way player on the football field, playing wide receiver and defensive back. On the offensive side, McMillan hauled 179 receptions, 2,640 yards, and 34 touchdowns over three varsity seasons for Servite High School in California. As a senior in 2021, McMillan was named the Polynesian High School Football Player of the Year and was a finalist for Gatorade National Football Player of the Year.
