My Top Devy Freshman WR Prospects

While the DFF team and I have been grinding away with coverage of the 2025 Dynasty rookie class, our Devy guys have also been getting familiar with the 2025 incoming freshman class. I’ve had the chance now to watch tape on most (not all) of the top wide receiver and running back prospects entering the college football landscape, and I wanted to bring you a sneak peek of my findings thus far.

In today’s article, I’ll cover my top three prospects (subject to change as I dive deeper) for the wide receiver position. I’ll briefly summarize their production profile, competition level, and my takeaways from a film perspective. Keep an eye out for Part 2 later, where I cover my top three RB prospects!

1. Dakorien Moore – Oregon

Production:

Moore played for an elite HS program, Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas, ranked 6th in the country and 2nd in the state. His quarterback was Alabama commit Keelon Russell. Moore led an absolutely loaded WR room with 74 receptions, 1,460 yards, and 19 touchdowns in 2024.

Film:

  • Zero questions outside of size/frame. Measurements online are all over the place; I’m guessing he’s around 5’11”, 180lbs. Not great, but should be totally fine.
  • Extremely twitchy, short-area quickness and long speed are elite as well
  • Dangerous in the open field
  • Highlight grabs left and right; hands look great
  • Speed advantage made him an elite separator

If you want a full prospect breakdown of Moore, you can check out my article on him here. Frankly, he’s in a tier of his own with this wide receiver class.

2. Talyn Taylor – Georgia

Production:

Taylor played for Geneva High School in Geneva, IL, ranked 11th in the state for football. Illinois doesn’t have the same level of competition as Texas, but it was sufficient enough. Taylor suffered a knee injury his junior year, cutting his season short, but bounced back with a monster senior season in 2024. Taylor posted a stat line of 84 receptions, 1,617 yards, and 24 touchdowns.

Film:

  • Decent short-area quickness but more build-up speed
  • Fluid runner – you can tell this kid is a natural athlete
  • Manipulative route runner – sells routes with subtle movements and bends his routes
  • Hands catcher, good body control and ball skills
  • Slimmer build, but at 6’1”, he has the frame to fill out

I’m not thrilled with the Georgia landing spot; it’s just hard for wide receivers to dominate in their system. There’s only been one 1,000-yard receiving season at Georgia, and that was over 20 years ago. Freshman teammate C.J. Wiley looks good as well, but Taylor is more explosive.

3. Vernell Brown III – Florida

Production:

Vernell Brown played for Jones High School in Orlando, FL, ranked 15th in the state and 54th in the country. As a junior, Brown caught 70 passes for 1,363 yards and 10 touchdowns. He bested these marks in 2024, posting 94 receptions, 1,508 yards, and 11 touchdowns. Brown was also used as a kick and punt returner.

Film:

  • Incredibly twitchy athlete (similar to Moore)
  • Impressive hands, ball skills, body control
  • Can win at all three levels consistently
  • Breakaway speed, elusive in the open field, and explosive with the ball
  • Slightly undersized (5’11” and likely around 170 lbs). He’s a physical player, though (played DB as well). Not a big concern for me, he has plenty of time.

His dad (Vernell Brown) played DB at Florida, so the bloodlines are there. Brown reminds be of Xavier Worthy stylistically; just an electric playmaker who can be used in a number of ways.

Honorable Mention

Kaliq Lockett – Texas

Locket has the size, speed, and athleticism to be a future Round 1 NFL Draft pick. His senior year numbers dropped significantly, but I believe that was due to a QB change. Lockett’s ball skills and boundary awareness are elite, and he has a pretty large catch radius. He will need to add some mass to his frame, but I prefer Lockett over his new teammate, Jamie Ffrench.
