Devy and Dynasty Rookie News Update

With so much that has happened in the world of college football recently, between prospects declaring for the NFL Draft, returning to school, or entering the transfer portal, I felt this would be a good opportunity to give you a quick rundown of all the most important news. Whether you’re solely a Dynasty player or enjoy Devy as well, this article should cover everything you need to get back up to speed. We’ll focus solely on the top prospects, as these are the guys we can expect to hit our Dynasty rosters down the line. Time to get you up to speed – let’s do this!

  • Carson Beck recently announced he will be transferring to Miami (as expected) for his final season. He must not have received exciting news regarding his 2025 NFL draft stock, so he decided to hold off. It’s reported he’ll be receiving a $4M NIL package for signing with the Hurricanes.
  • Oregon Ducks WR Evan Stewart will return for his senior year in Eugene instead of declaring for the draft. Stewart was considered by many to be a Top 3 WR in the 2025 class entering this season, but a disappointing junior campaign set him back. With what appears to be a weak 2026 WR class, Stewart has an outside shot to be the WR1 with a big senior season.
  • Former LSU WR Kyren Lacy is facing charges of negligent homicide following a hit-and-run incident in December. I was already out of Kyren before this news – his production profile had plenty of red flags, and the lack of maturity was a known issue. It can now be assumed that Lacy’s football career is effectively over.

  • Makhi Hughes will be making the move to Oregon for his junior season. If you haven’t heard the name, look this kid up. He was an immediate producer for the Tulane Green Wave, totaling over 3,000 scrimmage yards and 24 touchdowns in his two years there. If you want a more in-depth analysis on Hughes as a prospect, you can check out my article on him here
  • Former USC wide receiver Zachariah Branch and his brother Zion will move to Athens to play under HC Kirby Smart next season. I don’t love this for Branch’s Devy value in the long term. This isn’t a program that typically churns out impressive wide receiver seasons. In fact, the only 1,000-yard receiver in Georgia’s history was Terrence Edwards in 2002.
  • Alabama QB Jalen Milroe has declared for the NFL Draft. I imagine he received confirmation of a Round 1 Draft grade, leading to his decision to forego his senior season. Jalen has shown us he has some major flaws in terms of processing, but with the elite rushing upside he possesses, that may not matter from a Dynasty perspective. And with Round 1 draft capital, he should have enough value insulation where you’ll have a large sell window if you need to move him.
  • WR Squirrel White is off to Florida State. The speedster was once coveted in Devy circles, but a wildly disappointing 2024 season tanked his value. With the move to the Seminoles, his value may as well be zero.
  • WR/TE Duce Robinson is also headed to FSU. The former Trojan has not produced as many had expected him to when he came onto campus in 2023. He doesn’t excite me personally, but I know many Devy players are still in on him. I just don’t feel like he has a position he can excel in. He’s too thin for tight end and not dynamic enough to play receiver.
  • WR Johntay Cook will play under HC Jedd Fisch at the University of Washington next season. I’m firmly out on Cook in Devy. He couldn’t find the field at Texas, stuck behind Isaiah Bond, Matthew Golden, and Ryan Wingo. Whether that’s because he wasn’t good enough or because of his poor attitude, it makes no difference to me. Actually, if it was due to his attitude issues, that may be worse.
  • Miami RB Damien Martinez has decided to forego his final season and declare for the NFL Draft. Martinez is the largest RB in this draft, standing at 6’0” and a whopping 232 pounds. He split the backfield with sophomore Mark Fletcher and got off to a slow start, but really impressed in the second half of the year. I’m starting to come around on him.
  • QB Cade Klubnik is returning to Clemson for his senior season. This should come as a surprise to nobody, but he did have a tremendous junior year. I’m just not sure he has an easy path to emerging as a Top 5 QB in the 2026 class. There should be a bunch of talent at the position, depending on who stays in college.
  • With Texas still in the CFP, Quinn Ewers hasn’t announced any decisions on his future yet. But we can confidently say he won’t be playing in burnt orange next season; that job is Arch Manning’s. It will be interesting to see if he decides to declare this year. I think he could be the QB4 in the class for Dynasty, behind Cameron Ward, Shedeur Sanders, and Jalen Milroe.
  • We’re also still waiting on the official decisions of Drew Allar, Nicholas Singleton, and Kaytron Allen. With Penn State falling to Notre Dame last night, I imagine we’ll find that out shortly. My guess is Aller and Singleton will declare, while Kaytron will come back for one more season.
  • Texas A&M landed a pair of promising receivers in Kevin Concepcion and Micah Hudson. Hudson was still recovering from knee surgery when he joined Texas Tech and then suffered a leg injury late in the season, so his freshman year was rather uneventful. Concepcion followed up a Freshman All-American season with a major sophomore slump, seeing his production take a nosedive. Both young men have a lot to prove in 2025.
  • Syracuse TE Oronde Gadsden has officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. Gadsden is not in the same tier as Tyler Warren, Colston Loveland, and Harold Fannin, but he might be a nice sleeper to target, depending on the landing spot. He produced at an elite level as a true sophomore and had a nice senior year after missing nearly all of 2023 due to injury.

I believe that pretty much covers all the big news over the past couple of weeks in CFB. I will likely post a second version of this article following the deadline to declare for the NFL Draft to bring you the latest news. Be sure to keep an eye out for that!
