At this time, we’re going to spotlight mid-late round one Dynasty rookie prospects in Xavier Worthy and Brian Thomas Jr. I’ve seen questions regarding which of these players should be drafted higher within this year’s rookie class, and I wanted to take a deep dive into each prospect. Everyone wants to know when it comes to Dynasty rookie drafts: Do I draft Xavier Worthy or Brian Thomas Jr. first?
The statistics in this article were pulled from Sports Reference.
Xavier Worthy
Worthy was a stud during his three years at Texas, and he started in and played all 39 games. Most well-known for his speed, he’s also a very productive player. As a freshman, he established himself as a household name, pulling in 62 receptions for 981 yards and 12 touchdowns. He had a solid 60 receptions with 760 yards and nine touchdowns in his sophomore year. Then, he finished his junior year with 75 receptions, 1,014 yards, and five touchdowns. But he’s also multidimensional and ranks eighth all-time in school history with 564 punt return yards.
He was an excellent producer in one of the nation’s largest conferences, the Big 12. He fell into a great situation in Kansas City with the Chiefs and should make a seamless transition into the NFL. After all, he’ll be catching passes from Patrick Mahomes. With Rashee Rice possibly facing a suspension to at least start the season, the only other previously successful wide receiver on the Chiefs is Marquise Brown. To start the year, he has the chance to be the Chiefs’ second wide receiver and be counted on heavily. Overall, I love this fit for Worthy in the Chiefs offensive attack. The Chiefs’ head coach, Andy Reid, is a brilliant offensive mind as he’s had other successful speedsters in his coaching career with DeSean Jackson from his time with the Philadelphia Eagles and then, not too long ago, Tyreek Hill on the Chiefs.
Worthy will reward managers with his first-round rookie Dynasty pick status, and once he steps foot on the field, I expect him to be a potentially tantalizing Dynasty asset with his production.

Brian Thomas Jr.
Thomas Jr. had a successful college career during his three years at LSU but only made a name for himself during his last season. His first two seasons were quiet before he took a major step forward. BTJ led all of college football this past season with 17 receiving touchdowns (third all-time in school history, only behind Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase). He also had 68 receptions for 1,177 yards, all while he was LSU’s second wide receiver behind Malik Nabers.
His production and speed caught the attention of scouts nationally while playing in what most consider the toughest conference in the country, the SEC. He’s worth his first-round rookie Dynasty pick status based on his talent and landing spot. He fell into a nice situation in Jacksonville with the Jaguars, and he now has the chance to emerge as the second wide receiver behind Christian Kirk as he competes with Gabe Davis for that spot. The Jaguars also recently released Zay Jones, further enhancing Thomas Jr.’s landing spot and value. He has tremendous upside in that he should emerge as one of Trevor Lawrence‘s top pass-catchers in a strong offense.
In Conclusion
There’s no doubt that Xavier Worthy and Brian Thomas Jr. are both great mid-late first-round rookie Dynasty prospects, and a case can be made for both being drafted over the other. However, I prefer Xavier Worthy, as I will always side with the wide receiver catching passes from the consensus top quarterback in the NFL: Patrick Mahomes. In addition, the Chiefs’ offense appears to be revitalized and ready to get back on track after a year that was not previously up to their typical standards. Worthy is a younger prospect, just turning 21 a few days ago. He should have a long career of creating havoc in space and blazing past defenders into the endzone. Invest in him with confidence in the mid-late first round of your Dynasty rookie drafts, as the Chiefs offense looks poised to be the buzz of the NFL once again.
