The Broncos signed Melvin Gordon to a two-year $16 million contract last offseason. This offseason they originally placed a restricted free agent tender on Phillip Lindsay, before allowing him to walk in free agency. To replace Lindsay, they brought in Mike Boone on a two-year deal worth $3,850,000 and drafted Javonte Williams with the 35th pick in the draft. Oh yeah, Royce Freeman is still around somewhere too.

DFF Draft Coverage: Javonte Williams to the Broncos

My third-ranked running back in the class, Javonte Williams finds himself packing his bags and heading to…Denver…Yikes! Denver traded up to get ahead of Miami, but Atlanta trading out of this spot is even more confusing! Melvin Gordon has only one year left on his contract and it seems like Williams will look to follow in the steps of Nick Chubb, who spent a portion of his rookie season behind Carlos Hyde before Hyde was traded. Williams will be contending with Gordon all year which makes his immediate fantasy impact unlikely. The bright side is that the Broncos offense is surrounded by talented players and the defense should keep games close. The downside is that Drew Lock or Teddy Bridgewater is going to be his quarterback until they can figure that out. Gordon takes a slight hit, but he won’t be completely replaced this year. Gordon is still someone I’m looking to trade for on the cheap end, while Williams will fall in my rookie rankings due to the long-term situation in Denver.

We are going to build them out from the standpoint of their physical acumen, their athletic abilities, and then bring it full circle by looking into their college production. Sam Howell: 2021 Devy Profile

At the time of writing, betting odds place Sam Howell as one of the top five players most likely to win the 2022 Heisman Trophy. With the departure of teammates Javonte Williams, Michael Carter, and Dyami Brown, the Tarheel offense faces an uphill battle. If Howell is able to put up similar numbers after losing several heavy hitters to the NFL, it will set a lot of people at ease that it was talent and not merely the situation that led to Howell’s success.

Now in the books, Week 15 of the 2020 college football season saw #6 Florida, #10 Miami, and #21 Colorado exposed. The rest of the weekend slate went about as pundits expected. #13 Coastal Carolina escaped a let-down game with a narrow last-minute victory over Troy, and San Jose State knocked off Mountain West power Nevada to clinch a spot in their conference championship. Coastal Carolina and San Jose State both see their storybook seasons live on. Offensive fireworks and last-second opt-outs led us to witness draft stock movement this week as well, so let’s discuss!

Draft Stock Watch: Week 7

Each week I will bring you the latest updates and NFL buzz surrounding college players that should prove to be integral to future fantasy success. I will utilize recent statistics, performance and film, and general “front office whispers” to compile the intel I share with you. My hope is to provide you with a leg up on your opponents. You will know which devy players to target in trades and/or in what range of draft picks (both NFL and fantasy drafts) you can expect these players to be selected. If you want to read last week’s article, click here. Week 7 of the college football season saw five more ranked opponents take an “L”. I think we can definitively say that SEC defense is a thing of the past now after watching all of these high scoring affairs. The BIG10 conference will finally be joining the season looking ahead in Week Eight, but for now, we will examine this past weekend’s player performances and draft stocks.
