IDP Wrap Up: Week 15

If you have not been watching the Lions’ defense this season, you’ve probably missed some very solid production out of fifth-year defender Charles Harris. The former Missouri star has amassed 58 total tackles, nine TFLs, and 7.5 sacks this season. Sunday, the 26-year-old dominated, producing 12 total tackles, three TFLs, and 1.5 sacks against Kyler Murray and the Cardinals offense. The Jaguars drafted Josh Allen seventh overall in the 2019 NFL draft. That pick is paying big dividends for Jacksonville this season. The edge rusher is producing top defensive end performances consistently, with Week 8 being no exception. Allen’s slash line included six total tackles, four TFLs, and two sacks against the Seahawks. It was only a matter of time before this Wisconsin Alum made it into the top performers list. Coming off of his worst game of the year, Watt made up for his poor week five in a big way against Seattle Sunday. The fifth-year veteran produced seven total tackles, a TFL, a forced fumble, two sacks, and three defended passes in the game. Watt continues to be a strong IDP option, especially in sack premium leagues, so start him every week with confidence.

The Buffalo Bills pitched a shutout playing against a depleted Houston offense Sunday in New York. Week 5 will be a lot tougher, as the team has to square off against the Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs, but this week the Buffalo defenders dominated. The Cleveland Browns pass rush went nuclear on the Justin Fields and Matt Nagy-led Chicago Bears. In the 26-6 blowout, the pass rushers put up nine sacks! Chicago had no answers for the likes of Myles Garrett (see below) and Jadeveon Clowney. Coming up next, the Browns have the Vikings followed by the Chargers, two offenses that should hold their own a little better. That said, continue to start your Browns defensive studs.

2020 IDP Wrap Up: Off-Ball Linebacker

We learned that the young star linebackers were prepared to dominate once again! Both Roquan Smith and Devin White came into 2020 with extremely high expectations, and both delivered with resounding success. These two superstars combined for 280 total tackles (140 each), 32 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks on the season. Finishing just behind these two phenoms was a trio of consistent veterans in Zach Cunningham, Blake Martinez, and Joe Schobert. Barring any major unforeseen changes, the 2020 top five should produce well again in 2021.

The Tampa Bay defense went off on Sunday. On the road, albeit against the Broncos backup quarterback, the Buccaneers beat up Denver’s offense. On the day, the group tallied six sacks, two interceptions, a safety, and a blocked kick while surrendering only 10 points. IDP performers who produced include Shaquil Barrett, Antoine Winfield, Lavonte David, and Mike Edwards. The Vikings defense was… well… terrible on Sunday. Minnesota gave up 43 points and 522 yards at home against the Green Bay Packers. The Vikings defensive backs are young and inexperienced, which puts a lot of pressure on veterans like Eric Kendricks, Harrison Smith, and Anthony Barr. Expect extra IDP opportunities for the Vikings as they struggle with coverage.
