What We Learned This Week
Buffalo’s defense was devastating against the Dolphins, producing six sacks, two fumbles, and an interception all while holding Miami to zero points on the road. Looking ahead, the Bills get Washington and Houston at home over the next two weeks, so expect continued magic from the Buffalo defenders. Players who delivered against Miami include Taron Johnson, rookie Gregory Rousseau, and Matt Milano.
Tampa Bay got back to their dominant ways in week two after a rough week one against Dallas. This week, the Buccaneers dismantled Matt Ryan and the Falcons offense to the tune of three interceptions (two of which were returned for touchdowns) and a sack on Sunday. Tampa Bay has a deep and talented veteran bunch, so expect them to continue to perform at a high level. The main stars for Tampa this week include Mike Edwards, Carlton Davis, and Vita Vea.
Chicago took care of their defensive business in a win against Cincinnati on Sunday. The group sacked Joe Burrow four times, recovered a fumble, grabbed three interceptions, and scored a touchdown at home on Sunday. Roquan Smith, Jaylon Johnson, and Angelo Blackson had nice games for the Bears.
Top Player Performances
Bobby Wagner – LB – SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
Wagner made 20 total tackles… TWENTY TACKLES, against Tennessee!! In addition to the massive tackle total, the 10-year veteran added a TFL and a sack to his slash line. Wagner has long been a top fantasy asset in IDP circles, and his performance so far in 2021 has not disappointed.
Tyrann Mathieu – S – KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
In big games, the Honey-badger makes big plays, and on Sunday Night Football, Mathieu made amazing plays all game long. The LSU alum put together a game with six sacks, three passes defended, two interceptions, and one touchdown against Baltimore. Starting him in most IDP leagues, those who roster Mathieu are feeling good after week two.
Danielle Hunter – DE – MINNESOTA VIKINGS
Hunter has started the 2021 season on fire for the Vikings. In his tilt against Kyler Murray and the Cardinals, the star defensive end racked up seven tackles, three TFLs, and three sacks. The former 3rd round pick is on track for a fantastic season, so if you roster him, enjoy the ride!
Notable Injuries
Brandon Graham – DE – PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Graham, the 2010 first-round pick, entered his twelfth NFL season in the league coming off back-to-back eight-plus sack seasons. That streak ended on Sunday with Graham tearing his Achilles, thus ending his 2021 campaign. Players to target in his place are Josh Sweat and Ryan Kerrigan.
Bradley Chubb – LB – DENVER BRONCOS
The Broncos’ star edge rusher hit another injury snag in his young career. The fourth-year man landed on the IR following an ankle injury he suffered Sunday. The typical timeline for recovery after his scheduled bone spur surgery is six to eight weeks. Malik Reed is expected to step into Chubb’s role until Chubb comes back.
