2022 DFF Draft Coverage: Jaquan Brisker

Jaquan Brisker should leapfrog all the safeties taken ahead of him except Kyle Hamilton in rookie safety ranks. His only competition to start alongside rangy Eddie Jackson is a career back-up, Deandre Houston Carson. Better yet, the Bears have a new defensive coordinator in Alan Williams, most recently the Colts’ defensive backs coach. He and Matt Eberflus, the 2021 Colts defensive coordinator and 2022 Bears head coach, demonstrated a preference for a disparity in deployment between safeties. Julian Blackmon played the vast majority of his snaps deep while Khari Willis more frequently played closer to the line of scrimmage. The veteran Jackson can reasonably expect to be relied upon in a single-high role more often than the rookie Brisker. Brisker’s toughness in the box compares favorably with that of Jackson.

IDP Wrap Up: Week 12

Rasul Douglas had another remarkable game at cornerback against Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams. In his effort, Douglas accrued six total tackles, defended four passes, and took an interception to the house in Lambeau Field on Sunday. Douglas is a great option in BestBall leagues and is in a prime position to contribute in the IDP playoffs.

IDP Wrap Up: Week 7

Demario Davis had one of the best games of his career on Monday Night Football this week. IDP Wrap Up: Week 5

Haason Reddick came in as the top defensive lineman of week five, pestering Jalen Hurts all day long. The former Temple star has really found a home in the Carolina defense, and his statistics are proof of exactly that. On Sunday, Reddick stacked up two sacks, eight total tackles, and two TFLs at home against the Eagles.

IDP Wrap Up: Week 4

The Buffalo Bills pitched a shutout playing against a depleted Houston offense Sunday in New York. Week 5 will be a lot tougher, as the team has to square off against the Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs, but this week the Buffalo defenders dominated. In the effort, the team defense created three sacks, a fumble recovery, and four interceptions to secure the win. IDP players of note for the Bills include Tremaine Edmunds, Cam Lewis, and Star Lotulelei.

Scheme or Scam: Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders hired veteran defensive mind Gus Bradley to coordinate their defense in 2021. Bradley has a long history of creating studs for IDP fantasy football. This track record, however, has delivered no shortage of teases to the game as well. For every Derwin James, there has been a Ronnie Harrison and a Kyzir White for each Telvin Smith. The 2021 Raiders are sure to have equal parts boom and bust among their defensive players.

2020 IDP Wrap Up: Safeties

We learned that tackles are king at safety! The top five finishers in IDP scoring at safety all finished with more than 100 total tackles each through week 16. The top five stars of the safety position included Jordan Poyer, Budda Baker, Jessie Bates, Jeremy Chinn, and Adrian Phillips. Of those finishers, three are under the age of 26, and amazingly, Jeremy Chinn was able to crack the top five as a rookie. Chinn looks primed for another excellent year of production in 2021, so if you roster the Carolina safety, you are looking fine.

Scheme or Scam: Dallas Cowboys

In 2020 Dynasty Football Factory launched a series titled “Schemes Are Ch-Ch-Changing”. Each edition of the series explored how a new defensive coordinator would affect defenders as fantasy assets. The David Bowie song “Changes” would roll through my head as I started each article. I admit it; by the sixth or seventh article, I began to cringe at the title. I reached out to the team at DFF for ideas. Thus, I give you “Scheme or Scam.” The premise remains. I will investigate for each article how a new defensive scheme will deploy defenders and how that will translate to fantasy value. I write about this because it’s information I sought out and could not find when I began playing IDP fantasy football just a few years ago.

Top Free Agent Safeties

Devin McCourty
While McCourty may be getting a little long in the tooth at age 32, there is no overlooking the value of his experience. It’s been rumored the past couple of seasons, and he himself admitted that the thought of retiring had crossed his mind, but he still feels like he can play at a high level and can still impact a team.

Anthony Harris – Minnesota Vikings Since 2015 Harris has served as Minnesota’s utility DB. The mediocre Andrew Sendejo is now finally gone. That means Harris is ready to rip.
