AFC West: Divisional Nuggets

Clyde Edwards-Helaire has underwhelmed as have all the rookie running backs in 2020. Add into that the issue of one Le’Veon Bell being present and teams that are relying on CEH for a run at a title may be forgiven for being concerned. The question that teams in first through third have to decide is: what matters more… shiny assets for the future or winning a chip?

NFC West: Divisional Nuggets

The Seahawks came into this game with multiple injuries at the running back position. Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde missed the game, Rashaad Penny remained on the PUP list, and Travis Homer had a minor injury. While Homer managed to participate, the Seahawks leaned on rookie DeeJay Dallas in his place. However, the Seahawks still won over the 49ers, 37-27.

Week 8 Late Game Storylines

Of course, I have to focus on the return of one of my favorite rookie receivers, Jalen Reagor. Reagor will play in this game after missing multiple weeks with a UCL injury, and I expect him to immediately assume a starting role as the Eagles’ Z receiver. The Eagles have no receiving options outside of Reagor, Travis Fulgham, and Greg Ward, so Reagor could see significant work. Even if he doesn’t, I think Reagor has a WR1 future in the NFL, and I want to see him develop.

Week 8 Early Game Storylines

I love writing these storyline pieces. I will go through the games and discuss one dynasty-relevant storyline per team that I’m excited to see. Usually, I’ll split the games into two sets, covering the early games in one story and the later games in another. Also, I’ll do a special spotlight on the Thursday night game from time to time, as that’s a midweek contest. I like to go into more detail for that game, just for a change of pace.

This piece will give you something specific to look for in each contest, which I hope helps you enjoy the games even more. We all play fantasy football to enhance our enjoyment of football, and I’m trying to add to that sense of happiness here. Fun is the most essential part of this hobby for all of us, including me.

I’ve listed the home team first for each game to keep things organized. I won’t waste any more time, so let’s jump straight in!

Rookie Stock Market: Week 7

Mr. Bryant, my pre-draft TE1, has found himself in a pretty good situation, at least for the next couple of weeks. Before Week 7, Bryant was operating as the Browns’ TE2. Although not a flashy title, it still allowed Bryant to see around 50% of the offensive snaps. However, last Friday, October 23 it was announced that the Browns starting TE Austin Hooper would miss Sunday’s game after having his appendix surgically removed that Friday. The Browns later named Harrison Bryant the starting TE and he did not let them down. In Bryant’s first NFL start he eclipsed Hooper’s single-game high for touchdowns with two and nearly passed his single-game yardage high of 57 with 56 of his own.

NFC South: Divisional Nuggets

It seems like Brady has hit his stride with the Bucs’ weapons, and is producing nicely over the last few weeks while he bridges your team to your next quarterback. Through the last three games, he has jumped up the charts in yards per game from 20th to sixth and has the fourth most pass attempts. Brady has been his usual self in finding the open receiver and best option on most plays while distributing the ball evenly. For the rest of the season expect him to be a QB1 from week to week with how the Buccaneers are playing, but look for other options for the future while he is still doing well.

AFC South: Divisional Nuggets

Every week, I’m going to break down an entire division, focusing on their play on the field that week. Specifically, I’ll go through each team and focus on their dynasty assets, especially anybody who suffered injuries or a massive value change. I won’t look at any player or team in too much detail. This article is more of a summary piece. I also included links to all my previous divisional nuggets articles at the bottom of the page. With that said, let’s jump right in!

OBJ Injury Impact: Rapid Reaction

Odell Beckham Jr. was injured this past week with reports coming out this week of a torn ACL. This will unfortunately be the fourth time OBJ will miss at least four games in a season and it will be the third injury that ended his season early. With his birthday next week, the soon-to-be 28 years old will have his eyes set not on the first potential playoff spot for the Browns since 2002, but on the 2021 training camp. It’s a sad loss for a team that seemed to finally be taking that next step.

Michael Thomas: 2020 Dynasty Profile

The Saints drafted Thomas with the 47th overall pick in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. The Saints had Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead established as their top two receivers with tight end Coby Fleener as a free-agent acquisition from the Colts. However, Thomas immediately established himself as the WR1 for the Saints, leading the team in receptions, targets, and touchdowns as a rookie.

Rookie Stock Market: Week 6

What is up, party people, and welcome back for the sixth edition of the “Rookie Stock Market”. It has been a crazy season thus far. The season has had its ups and downs, and so has this rookie class. Eb and flow are to be expected for rookies, but it has not stopped a few from being within the top 12 of their positional scoring. James Robinson (RB7), Clyde Edwards-Helaire (RB11), Justin Jefferson (WR7), and CeeDee Lamb (WR10) have all been great and contributors in your lineups as their dynasty values rise. Not all the rookies can be studs and some rookies appear to be studs when they really aren’t. Let’s dive in once again.

From Ewa Beach to South Beach: It’s Tua Time!

On a dreary Tuesday morning in the Boston area on this date October 20, 2020, news broke that changed not just the state of the New England Patriots, or the AFC East, but the entire NFL. Heading into a Week 8 bye, the Miami Dolphins have named Tua Tagovailoa their starting quarterback. Tagovailoa saw his first game action during a two-minute drill, in which the Dolphins handled the New York Jets with little to no opposition. The Miami Dolphins have been searching for a long-term answer at quarterback ever since the retirement of Dan Marino, and now there is optimism on South Beach, the cause of this optimism: It’s Tua Time.

Dynasty Sleeper of the Week: Deonte Harris

Week 6 is in the books, and we are barrelling toward the midpoint of the NFL season. I am back to help you fill out the back end of your roster. Once again, this is not a waiver wire column, these are players that you could add now or wait and watch. My goal is to make you aware of some players off the beaten path. This week we are looking into the New Orleans Saints receiving corps with an electric player out of Assumption College, a 2019 All-Pro, and a Pro Bowler in Year 1. Deonte Harris is a 5’6” WR/Returner that could be a sparkplug type player for the Saints in the future.

NFC North: Divisional Nuggets

Aaron Rodgers burst back into the dynasty scene over the first four weeks of the season. Rodgers put up nine touchdowns and no interceptions over the first quarter of the season. That changed in week six where he did not register a touchdown and put up two interceptions including one pick-six, only the third such play of his career. Rodgers has re-established himself as a top 10 quarterback for dynasty formats as he likely has anywhere from 3-5 years left in the league. He has shown he can continue to play at a very high level and can be a big-time contributor for your squad.

Darren Waller: 2020 Dynasty Profile

The Ravens drafted Waller in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft as a wide receiver. Waller saw almost no playing time behind veterans Kamar Aiken, Steve Smith, and Chris Givens, and he eventually landed on injured reserve. After 2015, the Ravens decided to convert Waller into a tight end, hoping that he could provide a new element to their offense. However, Waller’s 2016 season got off to a bad start when the NFL suspended him for the first four games for violating the substance-abuse policy. He returned and played the remaining 12 games, but unfortunately, there were few opportunities in the Ravens’ offense. Veteran tight end Dennis Pitta led the Ravens in targets with 121, leaving only scraps for Waller. The Ravens also rarely deployed 2TE sets, preferring to use 11 or 21 personnel.
