Who is the RB1 of the 2027 Class?

The 2027 RB class has the potential to be quite strong from a fantasy perspective (or at least miles ahead of the 2026 class), depending on who all declares. As it stands in June of 2026, there are five players I think could conceivably become the RB1 overall in this upcoming draft class: Ahmad Hardy, Jadan Baugh, Justice Haynes, Kewan Lacy, and Isaac Brown. 

Today, I’ll be comparing all five of these prospects from a film and an analytical perspective to give you an idea of strengths, weaknesses, and overall value. (I also plan to use this exercise to pin down exactly how I’d like to range this group of guys in devy, because I’m having one hell of a time doing so.) 

I just wrapped up some All22 film reviews from the 2025 season for each prospect, so we’ll start with my key takeaways.

Braelon Allen: 2022 Devy Profile

A four-star recruit from Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, Braelon Allen burst onto the scene as a true freshman in 2021. Arguably the best two-way player in the state of Wisconsin coming out, Allen dominated the high school gridiron as both an All-Area Safety and All-Area RB. In his senior season, he averaged 14.6 yards per carry. Entering college, there was some doubt about whether Allen would play offense or defense at the next level. It was believed he could convert to MIKE LB, as his 6’2” 232 lbs. frame would suggest. Alas, RB would be Braelon’s calling and it was the right decision.

Devy Players of the Week

Junior 6’1 215lb QB Malik Willis broke onto the scene last year, passing for 2,250 yards 20 touchdowns, and adding 944 yards and another 14 touchdowns on the ground. Willis is now off to a hot start in 2021, with 613 yards and seven touchdowns through the air, and 225 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Willis is a true dual-threat QB, and he showed off his rushing ability against Old Dominion in Week 3. The Auburn transfer used his legs to find the endzone twice, rushing for 77 yards, and also throwing for 242 yards and four touchdowns, accounting for six touchdowns total. Willis has the attention of the Devy community thanks to his athleticism and rushing upside.

Eric Gray: 2021 Devy Profile

Eric Gray began his career at Tennessee in impressive fashion, sharing the backfield before breaking out late in the season. He finished with 539 rushing yards and 115 receiving yards with 5 total TDs as a true freshman. This past season, he led the Vols with 772 yards and scored four TDs on 157 carries. He tacked on 30 receptions for 254 more yards and two TDs, eclipsing 1000 scrimmage yards. Gray was featured as a player on the rise in your author’s weekly draft stock seasonal article in October.

Kevin Harris: 2021 Devy Profile

Kevin Harris is a 5’10” 227 lbs. running back that was a former three-star recruit. He was 247’s 44th ranked running back in the 2019 class. When reviewing his high school tape, Harris was most likely overlooked for two reasons. He played at a smaller high school and his offensive line at his high school was very effective, minimizing both the need and opportunity for him to break tackles.
