Today I’m going to be discussing a falling Devy asset – Branson Robinson (RB – Georgia). Branson Robinson was a four-star prospect coming into the NCAA having played his high school football at Germantown HS in Madison, MS where he also ran track and field. Committing to Georgia was a huge plus for Robinson as Georgia normally relies heavily on the run game and churns out top-tier backs. After a strong freshman campaign in 2022, I had high hopes for Robinson in 2023 before his entire season was lost due to a ruptured patella tendon. Robinson, who was slated to be Georgia’s lead back in 2023, didn’t get to see the field at all. I still had him in my top-25 Devy ranks, as I expected him to come back strong and still maintain lead-back duties for 2024. Georgia then brought in Trevor Etienne in the transfer portal, changing the entire landscape of the Bulldog backfield. Robinson drops out of my top-100 Devy ranks and I recently did a 14-team startup Devy draft of eight rounds in which he wasn’t selected. Backfield competition is the main reason Robinson has fallen so far; Trever Etienne is a certified stud who is going to command the bulk of the carries in the Georgia backfield leaving Branson Robinson to fight for the rest of the scraps along with fellow RBs Roderick Robinson II and Andrew Paul.
Trevor Etienne had 753 yards and 8 TDs last year for the Florida Gators while adding another 21 receptions. He’s a complete back with no real flaws to his game that’ll completely dominate the Georgia backfield in 2024. Branson Robinson stands at 5’10”, 220 lbs. and possesses the skill set and ideal size to succeed in college and at the next level but unless he enters the transfer portal the opportunities simply won’t be available for him in the crowded Georgia backfield. As mentioned before, Robinson showed promise as a freshman, rushing for 330 yards and 3 TDs on limited carries. He was poised to take over the backfield as a sophomore before the devastating season-ending injury and now it would seem that he’ll never actually get the chance to show what he can do at Georgia with the full-time gig.

In conclusion, and it pains me to say this as I’m still a huge Branson Robinson fan, he’s a Devy prospect to avoid at this point given Georgia’s crowded backfield and his lack of opportunity available. Instead, I would invest heavily in Trevor Etienne as the top back in Georgia’s vaunted backfield. If you’d bought Robinson previously he’s a huge sell to me if you can convince another manager that he still holds some value. Any Georgia RB carries inherent value and you could leverage his previous high ranking to sell him off while he still has some perceived value left.
