Dynasty Football Factory’s 2025 NFL Draft Coverage: Ollie Gordon II

Ollie Gordon II | Oklahoma State        6’1” 226 lbs.         01/15/04 (21)

Ollie Gordon II was drafted 179th overall by the Miami Dolphins, becoming the 16th running back and 179th overall player in the 2025 NFL Draft.

COLLEGE PRODUCTION

Year Games Played Attempts Yards Yards/Attempt TDs
2022 (FR) 13 62 308 5.0 2
2023 (SO) 14 285 1,732 6.1 21
2024 (SR) 12 190 880 4.6 13

Gordon II committed to Oklahoma State as a three-star recruit from Euless, TX. As a Freshman, he filled a reserve role and managed to be effective with limited opportunities on offense. Gordon II averaged five yards per carry to go along with 308 rushing yards, 76 receiving yards, and four total touchdowns. Then, the unthinkable happened. Gordon II went from a reserve role to winning the Doak Walker Award (nation’s top RB) the very next season. He led the FBS with 1,732 rushing yards and 2,062 yards from scrimmage (330 receiving yards). The Sophomore also finished second in the FBS with 21 rushing touchdowns. Then, the unthinkable happened again. Gordon II was arrested during the offseason on suspicion of DUI. He wasn’t the same after this, as his numbers plummeted drastically. In 12 games, Gordon II only managed to produce 880 yards and 13 touchdowns. He didn’t put together a bad season, but it was a huge step back from his Sophomore season. The decision to go pro came as a bit of a surprise, considering how much draft stock he lost during his final collegiate season.

STRENGTHS

Prototypical size and frame for a pro running back. Shows tenacious physicality and willingness to drive his feet constantly. Avoids a lot of tackles due to his hard work and efforts, finishing runs more often than not. Demonstrates superb vision in run zone schemes. Patient runner, willing to let holes develop in front of him before bursting through the gaps. Showcased that he can serve as a workhorse back, considering he won the Doak Walker Award in 2023. Natural soft hands out of the backfield and is a threat as a receiver. Capable pass protector against blitzing defenders.

WEAKNESSES

Below average athlete for a pro running back. Huge production dip from 2023 to 2024. Lacks ideal agility and elusiveness. Doesn’t excel in stop-and-go situations. Below average speed, often getting caught from behind in the open field. Lacks an ideal pad level when initiating contact, often running too high and avoiding getting low. Dances around too often behind the line of scrimmage, leading to too many negative plays. Although he is capable of pass protecting, he often gets beat because of his poor technique, considering his ideal size. Ball security is a bit of an issue (six fumbles and four lost during his collegiate career).

ATHLETIC TESTING

At the NFL combine, Gordon II measured in at 6’1” and 226 lbs, which equates to a BMI of 29.8. He ran a disappointing 4.61-second 40-yard dash (41st percentile), equating to a  100.1 speed score (68th percentile). Gordon II also displayed a measly 118.7 burst score (49th percentile) and a college dominator score of 34.9 percent (86th percentile).

Gordon II showed elite production during his 2023 season. But he lacks the ideal speed, athleticism, and strength as a running back prospect. His 4.61-second 40-yard dash was the second-slowest amongst 24 running backs at the combine. He also recorded the third slowest 10-yard split in the group (1.60 seconds). Gordon II wasn’t much better in the leaping drills. His 34.5” placed him tied for 20th, and his 120” broad jump ranked him tied for 18th. At his Oklahoma State Pro Day, Gordon II decided to bench press to try and convince the NFL he has ideal strength. That came back to shunt him, as his 12 reps would’ve landed him dead last at the combine.

DRAFT ANALYSIS

nfl

Rapid Reaction to Draft Capital: Great

Rapid Reaction to Landing Spot: Good

Gordon II was selected with the 179th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins.

This move makes a lot of sense. Miami adds Gordon II to a running back room that features De’Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, and Alexander Mattison. The team added Mattison in the offseason in hopes of using a more physical running back to go along with Acahne’s elusive play style. Gordon II may be a better version of that vision. He’s not going to come in and lead this team in carries, but he may earn a short-yardage role. Expect him to battle Mattison and Wright for that RB2 role.

FANTASY INSIGHTS

Gordon II received a 5th-round grade from me before the draft. I had him as the 13th-ranked running back. In your rookie drafts, Gordon II is a mid-to-late third-round pick. He may go higher because of his name and success in 2023, but be cautious about drafting him earlier than the third round. He serves as a depth piece for your dynasty team and may be a good taxi squad player. If you have any Achane shares, it doesn’t hurt to add Gordon II to your squad for depth purposes.
