Today, I’m looking at the incoming Freshman QB Class, focusing on my top four. This is the first in a three-part series; next time I’ll be addressing my Top-4 Freshman WRs and then my Top-4 Freshman RBs.
Dylan Raiola (QB – Nebraska)
Dylan Raiola is the newest golden-armed QB to enter college football. He’s got a cannon for an arm and can sling it all over the field. Raiola played his high school ball at Buford High School in Buford, GA. He passed for 2,666 yards to go along with 34 TDs and 1 INT in his senior season. Raiola stands at 6’3” and 230 lbs. giving him the perfect size for an NFL-caliber QB. Raiola’s decision to commit to Nebraska was a bit puzzling but it should give him ample time to play right away. According to most crypto sports betting sites, Raiola had initially been considered a lock to play for Georgia where he played his high school ball but he flipped to Nebraska at the last second. His father played for Nebraska which may have influenced his decision. Raiola is not known for being mobile but he can avoid pressure when needed and with an arm like his he doesn’t have to be. Look for Raiola to set college football ablaze starting in 2024.
DJ Lagway (QB – Florida)
DJ Lagway stands at 6’2” and 225 lbs. and is the prototypical Konami QB who can get it done with his legs whenever he has to. His arm could use some more refinement as he has accuracy concerns but Lagway is so athletically gifted that at the high school level, he could take over games all by himself. I expect that to be similar in college, in that his athleticism will win out when it needs to. His senior season at Willis High School in Willis, TX reads like a stat line from Madden: 4,604 yards, 58 pass TDs, 8 INTs with another 957 yards and 16 TDs on the ground. Like I said, athletically he had his way on the field in high school. Expect his accuracy issues to be refined the more snaps he takes in college.
Julian Sayin (QB – Ohio State)
Sayin just recently flipped his commitment from Alabama to Ohio State with Nick Saban announcing his leaving Alabama. Sayin joins a powerhouse Buckeyes squad that has been building the dream team all off-season, though he will likely sit his freshman year in favor of Will Howard. Sayin stands at 6’1” 195 lbs. and is a bit smaller framed but should still be able to succeed at the collegiate level. Sayin played his high school football at Carlsbad High School in Carlsbad, CA where he passed for 2,369 yards to go along with 24 TDs and 1 INT his senior season.
Jadyn Davis (QB – Michigan)
Jadyn Davis stands at 6’0” and 202 lbs. making him a bit short by NFL QB standards, but we’ve seen shorter QBs such as Drew Brees and Russell Wilson have success at the next level. He played his high school ball at Providence Day School in Providence Rhode Island where he passed for 3,370 yards to go along with 43 TDs and 9 INTs. Davis has a good all-around game with good accuracy and arm strength. He doesn’t have mobility and relies solely on his arm to succeed.
