Dynasty Football Factory’s 2024 NFL Draft Coverage: Chop Robinson

Chop Robinson | Penn State 6’3” | 254 lbs         1/02/2003 (Age 21)

Demeioun “Chop” Robinson was drafted by the Miami Dolphins, becoming the fourth Edge Rusher and 21st overall player selected in the 2024 NFL Draft.

COLLEGE PRODUCTION

Chop Robinson began his career at Maryland in 2021. He played in all 13 games as a true freshman reserve, with one start, recording 19 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, and 2.0 sacks. He transferred to Penn State before the 2022 season. That year, he earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten Conference honors as well as his Team’s Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman. He played in 12 games as a reserve, registering 26 tackles, 10 TFLs, and 5.5 sacks with 2 PBUs and a forced fumble. In his junior season in 2023, Chop earned Third-team Associated Press All-American and First-team All-Big Ten Conference honors. He started 10 games and missed two games due to an injury. He tied for the team lead with two forced fumbles and posted 15 tackles, 7.5 TFLs, and 4.0 sacks with a PBU.

Similar to Dallas Turner but with less statistical production, Chop Robinson is a twitchy athlete with elite first-step quickness. Robinson possesses rare explosiveness and speed to overwhelm blockers across from him. He is athletic for his size and plays with natural leverage and powerful leg drive to create instant pressure on tackles’ edges. He needs to develop more tools in his arsenal for situations when he doesn’t win right away with get-off or athleticism alone. Still, Robinson has outstanding pursuit speed and can run down outside runners and QBs easily. He holds a respectable edge and can hold his own in the run game, though it won’t be viewed as a strength right away. Robinson’s electric athletic traits alone should give him a floor as a good NFL starter. With great coaching, hard work, and the right development, he can develop into a pro-bowl player and create havoc for the next decade. 

ATHLETIC TESTING

Chop Robinson recorded a blazing 4.48 40-yard dash with a 1.54-second 10-yard split. He opted out of the bench press. Chop had a nice 20-yard shuttle time of 4.25. His broad and vertical jumps were outstanding, at 10’8” and 34.5” respectively. He opted out of the three-cone drill but performed positional drills.

Robinson was selected with the 21st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. 

FANTASY INSIGHTS

Chop Robinson is drafted just outside the top 20 but in the range that most predicted him. Miami has a pretty strong pass rush already on paper, but due to unfortunate injuries, finds itself in need of starting Edge Rusher. Miami has an electric, high-scoring offense and now it adds to a pass rush with an elite, rush-first athlete. The fit is perfect. He will have established high-level veteran Bradley Chubb and young ascending star Jaelen Phillips to work with and learn from. 

Robinson came in as your author’s DE4 of the class and remains in the spot. Its an excellent landing spot, but he may not be ready to be a full-time player right away. The long-term upside is higher than most, and I would not be surprised to see him become the DE1 or DE2 of this class three years from now. Expect to see him drafted in the early-to-mid third round of dynasty IDP rookie drafts.
