Ashton Jeanty | RB | Boise State | 2025 Draft Eligible
Ashton Jeanty is an electric running back talent out of Boise State, preparing to enter Year 3 of his collegiate career. He was a four-star recruit out of high school, according to 247 Sports, and ranked as the RB27 in his class. The young man stands at 5’9″ and 210 lbs, good for a BMI of 31. Jeanty is a highly skilled back whose value seems to be all over the place in the Devy world. I’ve seen some Devy sites rank him as high as RB4 in this class, while others don’t have his name listed at all. I believe Jeanty will declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, assuming he puts up similar numbers in 2024.
2023 Production
Facing lesser competition, like the Mountain West, is something we need to take into consideration when evaluating these college prospects. But regardless of competition, Jeanty finds himself as a Top 10 back in the nation in virtually every offensive metric. This kind of production isn’t something we can just ignore.
Here’s where Jeanty ranked amongst other FBS running backs in 2023. These numbers were pulled from PFF and based on a minimum threshold of 100 rush attempts.
- 82 missed tackles forced – 3rd in FBS
- 4.52 yards after contact per attempt – 3rd in FBS
- 94.6 PFF run grade, 94.8 PFF offensive grade – both 2nd in FBS
- Elusiveness Rating – 183.6 – 2nd in FBS
- YPRR – 3.09 – 2nd in FBS
- 48 targets – 8th in FBS
- 44 receptions – 3rd in FBS
- 578 receiving yards – 1st in FBS
Scouting Report
Ashton lined up either in the slot or outside on 18% of his snaps, demonstrating his versatility on the offensive end. He’s an experienced route runner with reliable hands, finishing the 2023 season without a single drop.
Jeanty is a natural athlete, excelling in basketball and track & field in high school as well. I wouldn’t label him as someone with elite speed, but he is faster than your average back. Ashton hit 21.5 mph in Week 13 this year against Air Force, taking a big run to the house.

With the ball in his hands, Jeanty’s bag of tricks is deep. He has a great spin move and loves to utilize the stiff arm to break tackles. He’s a strong, fearless back who runs with aggression and isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder. His playing style can get reckless at times; he tries to hurdle over defenders frequently, putting himself in a defenseless position. This is partially what led to his incredible 4.52 yards after contact in 2023, but he may want to consider focusing on protecting his body more in the games.
Jeanty has very quick feet and is shifty around the line of scrimmage. He can run it between the tackles or bounce it outside, displays impressive vision, and has elite contact balance due to his stout frame. As far as the running and receiving game goes, this guy has no glaring weaknesses.
Jeanty’s PFF pass block rating was 54.8, which is pretty much right in the middle of the pack. He allowed three pressures on 41 opportunities, good for an efficiency rating of 96.3. He has the size and strength to hold his own against the blitz, and I think he’ll be trusted in this role at the NFL level.
Dynasty/Devy Stock
I know this 2025 RB class is loaded, but I think Jeanty should arguably be valued as a Top 5 back. He has the size, strength, athleticism, and receiving upside to earn a large role on an NFL roster and be a legitimate fantasy asset. If you’re getting ready for your supplemental draft in an existing league, Jeanty is a great player to target, assuming he isn’t already rostered. Expect him to increase in value greatly during the 2024 season as he becomes more of a household name. If you’re preparing for a Devy startup, I’m guessing 10+ RBs will go off the board before Jeanty, so you may be able to wait until the third round or later before clicking his name. Ashton Jeanty has legitimate upside; get him while the price is cheap.
