Introduction
Today I’m highlighting some rookies from the 2023 NFL Draft class that I am out on for fantasy purposes. The landing spot doesn’t matter, the situation doesn’t matter, I’m out, no matter what.
Quarterbacks
Anthony Richardson (Florida)
His amazing RAS and analytics score don’t mean he can throw a football. He couldn’t throw a football at the collegiate level which is born out of his lack of production in his only year as a starter at Florida last season. His numbers are pedestrian, as was Florida’s record. AR15 puts SOME good on tape, but it doesn’t outweigh the bad. He has zero pocket presence, happy feet, scattershot accuracy at short distances, and can’t read basic defenses such as a two-high safety. Any QB not named Stroud, Young, Hooker, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, or Max Duggan. I’m out on any other QB of this class.
Running Backs
Sean Tucker (Syracuse)
I didn’t like his tape or the player before the heart issues rumors, now I’m not touching him with a 10-foot pole.
Deuce Vaughn (KSU)
Fun guy to watch but guys his size just don’t last in the league at RB.
Wide Receivers
Quentin Johnston (TCU)
I don’t do body catchers, plain and simple. QJ also has big issues with drops which were even evident on his pro day against no defenders.
Cedric Tillman (Tenn)
I just don’t see it with this guy. There’s nothing on his tape or when analyzing his college production that I like.
Marvin Mims (Oklahoma)
I don’t dislike Mims so much as I dislike his cost. At his draft, ADP give me the legacy that is Rashee Rice every day of the week.
Tight End
Darnell Washington (UGA)
No one has even heard of this dude before the Combine, he does well at the Underwear Olympics and now everyone is a buyer? No thanks. Played sparingly at UGA last season and didn’t produce.
Luke Musgrave (OR State)
Probably has a ton of talent but never got a chance to show it, shouldn’t transition slowly to the league.
Instead of these guys to avoid pivoting to these rookie steals:
- QB – Dorian Thompson-Robinson (UCLA)
- RB – Chase Brown (Illinois)
- RB – Roschon Johnson (Texas)
- WR – Rashee Rice (SMU)
- WR – Jayden Reed (MSU)
- TE – Sam LaPorta (Iowa)
