The quarterback carousel is in full swing this week as multiple quarterbacks got injured leading to their backups stealing the show. Below you’ll find some quarterbacks to target on your dynasty teams. Some may be more of a dart throw, but others could carve out a nice role for themselves. In dynasty, you can never have too many quarterbacks and when you don’t know the severity of some of these injuries, you could sneakily find yourself rich with quarterback options.
Mike White
Who would have ever thought that Mike White would come into his first-ever NFL start and become a QB1 on the week… a QB1! On the JETS! Well, he certainly proved he has a role to play on this team moving forward and that may allow the Jets to give Zach Wilson as much time as he needs to get fully healthy. Wilson remains the unquestioned starter on this team because of the high draft capital, but wow, White sure did look the part. White went 37/45 for 405 yards and three touchdowns. He also was able to catch a two-point conversion late in the game.
White was the spark that the Jets needed this week and coach Saleh has already confirmed that White will be the starter for their game on Thursday against the Colts. If you’re struggling with bye weeks and want to have some rooting interest on Thursday, White could be a fun option to plug in.
P.J. Walker
It is difficult to suggest adding Walker, but again, if you can add a quarterback who is starting it is worth doing. Sort of similar to adding a backup running back, you never know when they’ll be thrust into duty and maybe they’ll shine. Walker came in briefly at the end of the game for Sam Darnold after he was being treated for a concussion. At the time of this writing, it is unclear how long, if at all, Darnold will be out of the lineup. If he is out, P.J. Walker is the main backup and should see the starting work for the Panthers. Carolina may get their star running back Christian McCaffrey back in Week 9. This would be a huge help to the inexperienced Walker, who gained fame during his tenure as the XFL quarterback for the Houston Roughnecks.
Assuming he gets first-team reps in practice with a great set of weapons, perhaps Walker could find some decent fantasy points in Week 9, just like Mike White surprised us this week. Walker is worth an add, and if he plays well he could be an option to trade to the manager who has Sam Darnold.
Trevor Siemian
Unfortunately, it appears that Jameis Winston suffered a significant knee injury that could keep him out multiple weeks or perhaps even the season. The quarterback who took over for the Saints this week was Trevor Siemian. You may remember him from his time with the Denver Broncos and he never really took off during his tenure there. Siemian is stepping into a nice spot with a nice set of weapons that includes Alvin Kamara and likely Michael Thomas returning soon. It remains unclear if Taysom Hill will be able to return next week, which would cloud the starting job. However, if Siemian was able to take over and hold the quarterback job for the Saints, he could turn into a decent option in superflex leagues the rest of this season.
Siemian has a career completion percentage of 59.2% and a touchdown percentage of 3.6%. These are frankly not ideal numbers for a quarterback, but he is in a different situation with some interesting complementary pieces. He is worth a look to see if you have room to add him at the end of your bench as a speculative add. If Hill is healthy, odds are he would be the starter as he was last year. Hill was quite fantasy-friendly, but he is likely already on a roster in your league.
