Oscar Delp

2026 NFL Draft Coverage: Oscar Delp

Oscar Delp | Georgia | 6’5”, 245 lbs | Aug 4, 2003 (22 years old)

Oscar Delp was drafted by the New Orleans Saints, becoming the seventh tight end and 73rd overall player selected in the 2026 NFL Draft.

COLLEGE PRODUCTION

Coming out of high school, Oscar Delp was the No. 1 tight end prospect in the country. He had offers galore, but stayed close to home and went to Georgia. His first two seasons were spent behind Brock Bowers, but his best statistical season came as a sophomore. That year, he reeled in 24 catches for 284 yards and three touchdowns. Overall, Delp finished his collegiate career with 70 receptions for 854 yards and nine scores. The limited production is a bit of a concern. That said, we learned at the NFL Combine that Delp played most of his senior year with a foot fracture. Despite the injury, he showed his toughness by playing in all 14 games.

FILM

Oscar Delp has acceleration and speed that jump off the screen. He has a quick burst off the line, using that to get to the second level in a hurry. His speed is also unfair for linebackers trying to cover him. Delp can blow past them down the seam and get deep like few at his position can. He’s also versatile enough that he can be lined up all over the formation, helping create chaos and mismatches.

Delp is a willing and able blocker, but his short arms cause loss of leverage at times. Some added strength would help him at the point of attack. He also isn’t the best at off-target grabs because of his arm length; he needs the ball to be on time and within his catch radius.

ATHLETIC TESTING

Delp was held out of drills at the NFL Combine for liability reasons due to the fracture in his foot. But at Georgia’s Pro Day, he ran a 4.48 40-yard dash. He also recorded a 38-inch vertical and a 10-foot broad jump, numbers that put him in the upper echelon of athletic scoring among the position. At the Combine, his hand measurement was 9 ½”, and arm length was 31 5/8”.

DRAFT ANALYSIS

Rapid Reaction to Draft Capital: Above-average

Rapid Reaction to Landing Spot: Average

Delp was the second pass-catcher the Saints added in the draft. In Round 1, they took wide receiver Jordyn Tyson. Clearly, they want to give quarterback Tyler Shough as many weapons as possible to help him succeed as he heads into Year 2. Delp will have a chance to learn behind Juwan Johnson, who broke out last season in his first year under Kellen Moore.

Johnson was a top 10 TE last year, catching 77 passes for 889 yards and three TDs. He’s also under contract for two more years, meaning Delp will likely be the TE2 early on in his career, seeing the field in 12 personnel or when Johnson needs a breather.

FANTASY INSIGHTS

Not great, Bob. The Saints only lined up in 12 personnel about 17% of the time last season. Unless that number ticks up a ton going forward, it’s hard to imagine Delp seeing the field enough to matter in fantasy. If Johnson were to miss any time, maybe Delp would become usable.

As it stands, Delp is a Round 3 rookie pick, mainly because he got Day 2 draft capital. He’s a dart throw, one that could pay off down the line if he gets an opportunity.
