There was some big news this week involving one of fantasy’s very best running backs, Derrick Henry. Which usually means that there is some replacement production to be found on the waiver wire. It doesn’t mean waivers aren’t still thin but that also doesn’t mean there’s no production to be found on the free market.
Adrian Peterson (RB – TEN)
The beneficiary of the unfortunate Derrick Henry injury? Adrian Peterson. It pretty much goes without saying that Adrian Peterson will not take over the Henry role that included 84.2% of the opportunity share. That simply won’t happen. But he likely takes over 50%+ given that he’s the only running back on the roster with a history of production, even at his age. It’s likely a low-end RB2, high-end RB3 role that can be serviceable, but when it comes to the waiver wire, we will always take that production.
Jamal Agnew (WR – JAC)
Don’t look now but in the last two Jaguars’ games, Jamal Agnew has been the target leader on the team posting a near 20% target share. With DJ Chark out for the year, Laviska Shenault being very disappointing, and still having an aDOT close to the line of scrimmage, Agnew is worth the shot on the waiver wire.
Ameer Abdullah (RB – CAR)
You can add this to the list of surprises from Week 8 action. Ameer Abdullah had a 20%+ target share which only trailed D.J. Moore on the team. If you’ve listened to me before you know how much I stress finding running backs that get targets and with the chance that Abdullah can do that for you from the free market, we’re going to take our chances. Just like Hasty last week, we like Abdullah this week.
