Welcome back to another weekly edition of “The Wire”. In this series, I review three players each week that you should target on the waiver wire for your Dynasty teams. To keep the information in this series consistent, I will only refer to players with an ownership percentage of less than 50%, according to Sleeper Dynasty leagues. I’ll do my best to provide you with players that have a more long-term upside rather than a one-week ceiling, seeing that this is a Dynasty series and not Redraft. So, sit back, relax, and let me find you some diamonds in the rough!
Dontayvion Wicks | WR | Green Bay Packers
46% Rostered
This is the second consecutive week Wicks has made our list, but it needs to be reiterated as the rookie continues to produce while flying under the radar. As we mentioned last week, the usage has not been there (less than 50% snaps played since Christian Watson returned), but the efficiency has certainly been there. Dontayvion has made his presence known every time he steps onto the field, making one explosive play after another.

The downside here is that the Packers’ passing attack is below average in both volume and efficiency, sitting at 19th in pass YPG, 19th in pass attempts, and 21st in passer rating. On top of this, the passing game has not been condensed to two or three main targets; instead, Love has been spreading it out to virtually every pass catcher in this offense. So the pie is smaller, and it’s being divided into smaller pieces than most.
That said, the two most efficient WRs on this Green Bay offense have both been rookies, Dontayvion Wicks and Jayden Reed. Wicks leads all GB receivers with 2.03 YPRR.
Packers wide receivers this season:
Romeo Doubs: 1.37 yards per route run
Christian Watson: 1.28 yards per route run
Dontayvion Wicks: 2.03 yards per route run
Jayden Reed: 1.93 yards per route run— JJ Zachariason (@LateRoundQB) November 20, 2023
It’s now fairly clear that Christian Watson is not the elite alpha WR many expected him to be. Doubs has been productive in his role but appears to have a WR3 ceiling in fantasy. Reed is the most promising of the group, but Wicks has been promising in his own right and is literally free in many dynasty leagues. He’s earned 4+ targets per game the past month on an extremely limited snap count. If he takes Watson’s routes and sees the field on every pass play, we could be looking at a legitimate flex player in fantasy in the near future.
D’Ernest Johnson | RB | Jacksonville Jaguars
14% Rostered
Tank Bigsby owners are down terribly right about now. Remember this preseason, when people were fading Travis Etienne, and there were talks of Bigsby taking over this backfield as a rookie? Well, life comes at you fast. Bigsby has been utterly worthless from a fantasy perspective this year and pretty damn bad from a real-life perspective as well. Enter D’ERnest Johnson, the 5-year veteran back who has been an afterthought throughout his NFL career. That likely won’t change now, but it does look like Doug Pederson prefers Johnson to Bigsby.
D'Ernest Johnson only needed 4 yards.
He got 33.

Johnson has out-snapped Bigsby in the past two weeks, seeing eight total touches for 54 yards against the Titans this past weekend. D’Ernest is an excellent waiver wire add if you already own Travis Etienne. If not, he’s still a handcuff RB on what should be a high-powered offense, so if Etienne were to get injured, Johnson would be a must-start option for many teams, at least in those leagues with 11+ starting spots. I’d much rather roster a backup RB on a good offense than a depth WR piece. Johnson has the contingent upside to help win you some fantasy matchups.
Salvon Ahmed | RB | Miami Dolphins
34% Rostered
Ahmed is another player we had listed in this article series earlier in the year after De’Von Achane went down with an MCL sprain. Ahmed has had a rollercoaster season thus far, seeing a couple of double-digit fantasy performances and a few healthy scratches. However, things seem to be trending in the right direction for Ahmed. Unfortunately, Achane re-aggravated the same knee injury this past weekend against the Raiders, and his return time is currently up in the air. Jeff Wilson was a healthy scratch in Week 11 while Ahmed suited up, suggesting he is now ahead of Wilson on the depth chart. With Achane’s health in question, Ahmed could be right back in that RB2 role behind Raheem Mostert in Week 12.
Tua’s 2nd touchdown of the day goes to Salvon Ahmed 🔥

Ahmed is just 24 years old and in his fourth season for the Dolphins, so he’s young enough to still see his Dynasty value increase as an RB. Ahmed is on a one-year deal with Miami and will be a free agent entering the 2024 season. The young man must show what he can bring to the table in the latter part of this season to hopefully earn himself a contract extension in Miami or a significant role on another NFL team. Ahmed is a solid pass-catcher with elite speed and burst. He’s a little undersized but has a lot of similarities to rookie RB Achane, who we all know is viewed quite highly by McDaniel, as well as the fantasy community. I think Salvon has the opportunity to make a splash down the stretch if he can see the field consistently. He just needs to be given the opportunity, and he will prove his worth.
