It’s that time of year my friends… A time when those “in-the-know” take their 2018 fantasy season by the horns and make a push for a championship… Through solid roster construction, excellent start/sit decisions, schedule fortune, and/or just owning Mahomes and Thielen; your team is sitting pretty for the playoffs run. So how do you push your team to the top? This article will focus on a few sleeper options you may be able to acquire cheaply to hoist the trophy in December.
Dak Prescott – The Cowboys have had to face the 3rd, 2nd, 8th, 2nd, 17th, 1st, and 13th ranked opponent QB defenses so far in 2018 (rankings based on the time they played that defense)… Conversely, Dallas gets to play the 21st, 31st, 28th, 20th, 21st, 27th, and 31st ranked QB defenses from weeks 10 to 16 (rankings as of the time of writing). In Prescott’s previous two seasons, he finished ninth and sixth among QBs, so his track record in there.
Finally, Dak got a new WR to throw to in Amari Cooper, who has more talent than anyone Prescott has had to throw to all season, so the upside is undeniable. Look for big things in Big D over the next two months from the Cowboys quarterback.
Alex Collins – Plenty of owners are down on Collins, who has not eclipsed 70 total yards since week three. The 24-year-old, former Razorback, may be in line for a surge in production during the second half of the year. Heading into a schedule against the Bengals, Raiders, Falcons, Chiefs, Buccaneers, and Chargers, we predict a high level of improvement out of Collins statistical totals. If you have a need at the position and are looking for a relatively low-cost option, look no further than Mr. Collins in Baltimore.
Devin Funchess – In the wide world of wide receiver, Funchess is ready to have fun in the second half of 2018. Coming off a month where he had to play tough defenses like the Giants, Redskins, Eagles, and Ravens, some owners may have become sick of the Michigan man’s lack of production.
If so, this is your chance to pounce on the Panther! The former 2nd round pick has garnered 50 targets through seven games and is expected to hold down top duties even with the emergence of DJ Moore. A future schedule against Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Seattle, Tampa Bay again, Cleveland, New Orleans, and Atlanta is a recipe for great things for the young Carolina WR.
Evan Engram – The versatile, athletic tight end has been a disappointment to many in the fantasy world this year, scoring fewer than five PPR fantasy points in three of the five games he’s played, while also missing nearly a month of games due to injury. However, we see autumn change for the big man from Mississippi, as he will face no defense ranked higher than 17th against Tight Ends the entire rest of the season. If you can get your hands on the Giants tight end, go out and get him.
K.J. Wright – The Seattle Linebacker is back in action, returning from injured reserve in week eight to tally five tackles in his 2018 debut. We will see big stats coming from the 29-year-old stud playing in his eighth NFL season! “Why is that?” you ask? Well, Wright will be competing against high powered offenses like the Rams, Packers, Panthers, Vikings, and Chiefs, which will create tackle opportunities galore as the Seahawks fight for a playoff spot. If possible, now is the time to obtain Wright for the stretch run in your IDP leagues.
