Last year when this series debuted, I wanted to help shed light on one of my favorite tricks in Fantasy Football, Waiver Wire Sniping. The strategy is simple. Without compromising your roster (of course), look to see if you have an available roster spot or a player that you were holding as a possible fill-in for a week that is no longer needed. Then look a week or two ahead and see if any of your current starters are on a bye or have a matchup you want to avoid.
By picking up a streaming option or high-end stash before the weekend action, you can “snipe” that player for free and before that player is featured on podcasts (such as the Fantasy Football Fellas podcast – shameless plug) and waiver articles across the fantasy football world. “Sniping” allows you to eliminate the grueling wait on Wednesday or Thursday morning, hoping your Waiver Wire pick-up isn’t grabbed by another team with a lower waiver priority or more FAAB dollars. If the chips fall your way, you may have a very valuable piece for the low-low price of NOTHING.
Each week I’ll be giving you potential steaming options for the week ahead, some stash candidates that are widely available in redraft leagues and highlighting the tough matchups and teams on bye in the coming week.
Here are some guys that you might not necessarily need for this week but might be high Waiver Wire pickups for week 10.
Week 10 Streaming Options
Baker Mayfield vs. ATL (38%) – The final week of Baker’s run of amazing matchups comes to an end next week with a home game against the Falcons. Atlanta is currently giving up the 2nd most points to opposing QBs on the year so as long as the Cleveland offense is semi-competent without Hue and Haley, this should be good for fantasy owners.
Blake Bortles @ IND (23%) – It’s been a rough year for Bortles, but if you’re desperate, he could be a guy to turn to in week 10. The Colts have been really bad against QBs has of late including giving up 27+ points to three of the last five QBs they’ve faced. The other two being 19 to Sam Darnold and the other being Derek Anderson.
Nyheim Hines vs. JAX (27%) – Jacksonville has been good against RBs this year, but not untouchable. I prefer Hines in PPR, but the Jags have given up 12 or more points in standard scoring leagues to a RB in each of their last four games.
Jamaal Williams vs. MIA (22%) – The Dolphins have been HORRIBLE against RBs this year giving up double-digit fantasy point to 10 RBs this year… in 8 games! Most think that Aaron Jones will be the guy in Green Bay, but with more touches to go around and the Packers unwillingness to commit to Jones so far this season, Williams might be a sneaky pick up for his week 10 matchup.
David Moore @ LAR (15%) – Moore has been great for Seattle as of late, scoring four TDs in his last three games, including a two TD day against the Rams just a few weeks ago. I’m not sure what’s going on with Doug Baldwin, but with the Seahawks cutting Brandon Marshall earlier this week, it could be a sign that they’re really starting to trust this kid. I like the matchup next week, but love the idea of stashing him rest of season.
Chris Herndon vs. BUF (11%) – I guess I’ll continue to list Herndon here until he doesn’t score again, which he’s done in three straight games! The Buffalo matchup is decent, but as everyone is looking for a TE breakout, Herndon might be the guy.
LAC @ OAK (50%) – The Chargers are highly owned, but did you see that Oakland team on Thursday?! Make sure the Chargers aren’t sitting out there to be had.
NYJ vs. BUF (33%) – If Anderson or Peterman are suiting up for Buffalo, the Jets are a must play DST next week.
The Stashes – Other players to monitor that might be available in your league. Listed below in order I would rank these pickups.
Shallow League Options: Tre’Quan Smith (27%), Keke Coutee (35%), Christian Kirk (26%)
Deeper League Options: Anthony Miller (10%)
Shallow League Options: Ito Smith (41%), Ty Montgomery – PPR (20%)
Deeper League Options: Elijah McGuire (10%), Josh Adams (10%)
Week 10 Potential Matchups to Avoid: CAR @ PIT, DET @ CHI, IND vs. JAX, TB vs. WSH
Teams on Bye next week: BAL, DEN, HOU, MIN
