Restricted Free Agents: WR Dynasty Sleepers

Free Agency is fun but often the RFA’s are overlooked, not only by NFL teams but by fantasy owners as these situations are fluid and could change the overall perspective and value on these players in a second. The free agent class is very top-heavy and drops off steadily however there is some value in the RFA pool this year that fantasy owners should look to acquire or pickup before their situations get even better.

 

Kendrick Bourne

6′ 1″ Weight: 203 lbs. Age: 24 Team: San Francisco 49ers

Bourne comes into the off-season full of promise and one of the best RFA available on the market. Coming off a Super Bowl where he led all 49ers receivers in yards, he has made the most of his targets this year. Bourne has good size and is a red-zone target for the 49ers as he has shown in the last two seasons with 4 and 5 touchdowns respectively. All nine of those TDs have come in the red zone so Bourne has been a nice asset in that department.

Kendrick Bourne will look to capitalize on the disappearance of Dante Pettis and he took steps during the Super Bowl. With Emmanuel Sanders hitting free agency it could give Bourne that added boost up the depth chart to continue to grow on a team that needs dependable targets. Outside of Kittle and the emergence of Deebo Samuel, if Sanders walks the 49ers will look to do what they can to keep Bourne around. 

Bourne is a good pickup at this point in fantasy due to his value to his current team however if another WR needy team like the Packers,Jets, Colts or Eagles sign him to an offer sheet he could find himself in a situation where a team needs him to be a true #2 WR. Bourne has WR3 potential and is someone fantasy owners should consider targeting in off-season trades and/or picking up if you are fortunate enough to get him off the waiver wire. 

 

Isaiah McKenzie

5′ 8″ Weight: 173 lbs Age: 24 Team: Buffalo Bills

McKenzie unlike Bourne needs a change of scenery to see his full potential and would be a whole lot more appetizing on some of the more creative offenses in the league like the Saints, Patriots, Chiefs, 49ers, Eagles to name a few. Isaiah is an electric player, is super quick and can change a game in a flash. He has 4.4 speed and can help teams in the return game. 

McKenzie can run the ball out of the backfield and is a good enough receiver to stretch defenses or take a screen to the house. He played in 15 games this year and his snap percentage stayed relatively the same from 2018 to 2019. He had only nine more targets this year and two fewer carries. 

The perfect scenario is he gets 5-10 touches a game in a creative offense. If McKenzie ends up getting signed somewhere else he could have a breakout season even if many view him as a gadget player. As far as fantasy goes he is an afterthought and could be an easy target for you to acquire especially as an end of roster type.

 

David Moore

6’1” Weight: 215 lbs Age: 25 Team: Seattle Seahawks

 Moore, when coming out of East Central, a little known school a few seasons back, was drafted in the 7th round. In 2018 David Moore exploded on the scene with 26 receptions and 445 yards at 17.1 yards per reception. He also added 5 touchdowns in 2018. Moore made big plays in 2018 and is an above-average athlete. 

He seemed to take a backseat in 2019 with the Seahawks adding wide receivers in the draft which included D.K Metcalf stepping up as an asset in his own right. David Moore will hit RFA with plus size and speed at age 25 and would be a good get for WR needy teams looking for a discounted receiver. Seattle’s offense has not been WR friendly as they have been more of a run-heavy team. It has not been a plus situation for secondary options. Moore only had 17 catches and 2 TDs this past season but upped his yards per reception to 17.7 according to Pro Football Reference which put him among the best in the league although, in a limited sample size.

Moore is also a capable receiver after the catch as shown in the clip above. He has a lot more to offer to a team that throws the ball more regularly and uses more WRs in their personnel. Moore probably was owned in most leagues after the 2018 season but after a dismal 2019, he is another guy you may be able to grab off the waiver wire or acquire for cheap to stash on the end of your bench. If Moore is valued more than he was in Seattle he could give you decent production from a back end roster guy.

 Those are my top three RFA WR dynasty sleepers. All three have the talent to be productive options on their teams. We can’t regulate or anticipate situations but we can gather talented players on our rosters and hope the situation plays itself out.
