Mason Taylor

Mason Taylor or Terrance Ferguson?

At this time we’re going to spotlight early to mid-third-round Dynasty tight end rookie prospects, Mason Taylor and Terrance Ferguson. I’ve seen questions regarding which players should be drafted higher within this year’s rookie class, and I wanted to dive deeply into each prospect. Everyone wants to know when it comes to Dynasty rookie drafts: Do I draft Mason Taylor or Terrance Ferguson first?

Mason Taylor

Taylor at 6’ 5”, 251 lbs. is mostly known as the son of former Dolphins Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end Jason Taylor. Mason was an early-declare who played an integral role in all three of his collegiate seasons at Louisiana State. As a true freshman back in 2022, Taylor had 38 receptions and over 414 receiving yards with three touchdowns. Then he took a small step back production-wise in 2023 which was the final season for Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. (both monsters in NFL Daily Fantasy) and he had 36 receptions and 348 receiving yards with one touchdown. However, he bounced back in 2024 with career-bests as he amassed 55 receptions, with 546 receiving yards, and two touchdowns this year. Taylor is an athletic player who has the versatility to be used in multiple ways at the next level.

He became a solid and reliable producer in one of the nation’s largest conferences, the SEC. Taylor fell into a good situation with the Jets where he could make an immediate impact after being selected in the second round (46th overall selection) in the 2025 NFL Draft. While the Jets are far from a high-powered offensive attack, Taylor is a sure-handed receiver and blocker who will help first-year quarterback Justin Fields as a reliable target. Outside of Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard, there is no other receiving threat on the team with a 300-yard season under their belt. Taylor could immediately become the number two target and have Dynasty Fantasy Football relevancy. Taylor is in the conversation to be the best tight end in the 2025 class after Tyler Warren and Colston Loveland. Overall, I like this fit for Taylor as the Jets need pass catchers and Taylor is a reliable player who with NFL bloodlines and being only 21 years old has plenty of room for growth and continue to expand his offensive game.

Taylor will reward managers with his third-round rookie Dynasty pick status long term and I expect him to be a solid producer who instantly slides in at the Jets’ top tight end and over time we’ll see his Dynasty Football stock rise.

Terrance Ferguson

Terrance Ferguson

Ferguson at 6’ 5” and 247 lbs. came into the pre-draft process as an underrated tight end prospect. Still, with his combined performance and selection by the Rams in the second round (46th overall selection) in the 2025 NFL Draft his Dynasty Fantasy Football stock has risen. Ferguson was a four-year player for the Oregon Ducks and he gradually improved year after year. I’d like to highlight his last two seasons where he had most of his production. In 2023, Ferguson had 42 receptions for 414 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Then in 2024, his senior season he finished the season with 43 receptions for 519 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. Most notably, he posted a career-best 22.2% target rate in 2024 to go along with 2.02 yards per route run. Ferguson proved by his on-field play that he also deserves to be mentioned in conversation for the best tight end in the 2025 class after Tyler Warren and Colston Loveland.

Ferguson became a solid and reliable producer and he fell into as great of a situation as he could have with the Los Angeles Rams. He has a very real chance to be the third receiving option in the Rams offense as soon as this upcoming season, after Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. Even though the Rams do currently have veteran Tyler Higbee, Higbee is 32 years old and coming off a major knee injury the previous season. With this, there’s no reason to believe the Rams won’t get a young player with high draft capital involved early on within their offense. I want to be investing in a young ascending tight end who gets to catch passes from Matthew Stafford in a Sean McVay run offense. I also love the fact that Ferguson has second-round draft capital which will allow him to get his opportunities. Additionally, he also brings elite athleticism to the table. Ferguson scored an incredible 9.32 RAS out of 10 and led the tight end class with his 40-time of 4.64 seconds. His broad jump of 10’2” was third within this year’s tight-end class, and his 39” vertical was first overall. I believe all of this will show up on the football field and Coach McVay will be able to design plays for Ferguson to help the Rams be a much more dynamic offense. Overall, I love this fit for Ferguson as he has the talent to shine for the Rams and he can add a playmaker to their already prolific offense.

Ferguson will reward managers with his third-round rookie Dynasty pick status long term and I expect him to be a very solid producer who will instantly add to the Rams offensive attack. He will see his Dynasty Fantasy Football stock rise throughout this season in the Rams offense being paired with a dynamic quarterback like Stafford.

Conclusion

There’s no doubt that Mason Taylor and Terrance Ferguson are both great early-mid second-round rookie Dynasty prospects and a case can be made for both being drafted over the other. I fully expect both players to see their stocks rise throughout the year. However, with it being a difficult decision, I prefer Ferguson based on his raw athletic ability and his much better landing spot with the Rams who have a proven Super Bowl-winning quarterback. In addition, the Rams are known to draft extremely well and put their players in the best position to succeed. With Coach McVay being one of the best offensive minds in the NFL I fully expect him to be able to use Ferguson in the best ways possible so that he can meet and exceed his potential. Invest in Ferguson with confidence, in the early to mid-third round of your Dynasty Fantasy Football rookie drafts as the Rams offense looks poised to continue to be a top unit and the outlook between him and Stafford looks to be a perfect match.
