Today I’m delving into one of my favorite prospects: Jadyn Davis (QB-Michigan). Born August 22, 2005, Davis, 18, will be a true frosh in 2024, and assuming that J.J. McCarthy (QB – Michigan) decides to leave for the league, Davis will have a chance to step in and start right away for the Wolverines. Davis played high school ball at Providence Day High School in North Carolina and is one of few incoming QBs to start more than 40 games while also throwing for more than 100 TDs throughout his high school career. He also won a state title as both a junior and senior over his last two seasons.
Davis isn’t a big man; standing at 6’0” and 190 lbs., he could stand to add on some muscle as he enters the collegiate ranks as his arm strength is just average. However, what Davis lacks in elite arm strength he makes up for with pinpoint accuracy. Davis can impressively put the ball right where it needs to be, somewhere only his receivers can get to it.
Alabama, Georgia, OSU, FSU, Clemson, LSU, and Texas all coveted this kid entering NCAA commitment day. Those who stay will be champions, so assuming J.J. McCarthy decides to leave for the NFL, Jadyn Davis will have his chance to come in as a true freshman and lead one of the best teams in college football to a national title next college season.
While I don’t view Davis as a true dual-threat QB, he can escape the pocket and make defenders miss when he has to. He is most comfortable operating over the middle of the field with quick short-intermediate throws from a three-step drop.
Watching some of his highlight reels it appears Davis’ best throws come from the pocket when he’s able to release the ball quickly, making him elite against the blitz. The Wolverines always have one of the best offensive lines in the league and are bolstered by a solid run game. This means Davis would have strong run support and a lot of time in the pocket to utilize his accurate arm.
Davis sort of reminds me of C.J. Stroud (QB – HOU) in that while he doesn’t have the biggest arm or the quickest feet, he can make defenders miss when he has to and can launch a bomb or two when necessary. Also like Stroud, Jadyn Davis’ strength lies in his pinpoint accuracy, which is what has led to Stroud’s ascent to elite QB in the league. Davis also appears on film to have a great football IQ and he seldom makes poor decisions with the football.
As a Wolverine alum, I’m so happy Davis decided to commit to my beloved Wolverines, especially considering Michigan’s system. With its vaunted offensive line, run game, and strong defense on the other side of the ball, I think the sky is the limit for this young man.
