IDP Wrap Up: Week 14

WHAT WE LEARNED THIS WEEK

Holy Smokes, this week was a fun one for the Washington Football Team defense. Playing at the displaced defending NFC champion 49ers, the Football Team produced four sacks, two fumbles, an interception, and two touchdowns to help secure the victory. Since Week 11, Washington has given up a total of 57 points (fewer than 15 per game), while scoring three touchdowns and registering 12 sacks in that timeframe. Players that made IDP waves this week include Chase Young, Kamren Curl, and Montez Sweat.

The Arizona Cardinals annihilated the Giants’ offense on Sunday, racking up eight sacks and scooping up three fumbles in an easy win in New Jersey. After posting seven total sacks in the previous four games, the sack parade was a nice change-of-pace for the Arizona defenders. Players who made a statement for the Cardinals on Sunday were Haason Reddick, Dennis Gardeck, and Dre Kirkpatrick.

Playing in Cincinnati on Sunday, the Dallas defense showed out in a big win over a depleted Bengals offense. The Cowboys combined to collect two sacks, three turnovers and scored a touchdown in the 30-7 win. Led by Jaylon Smith, Tyrone Crawford, and Aldon Smith, Dallas owned the day in Ohio in week 14.

TOP PLAYER PERFORMANCES

Haason Reddick – LB – ARIZONA CARDINALS

Reddick set a single-game franchise record for Arizona on Sunday when he compiled five sacks in his home state of New York. In addition to the sacks, the former Temple Owl recorded five tackles, two TFLs, and three forced fumbles in the game. Up to this point in the season, Reddick had been a consistent player, but not spectacular. This week changed all of that, so if you started him in week 14, you had a fun afternoon watching him work.

Kenny Young – LB – LOS ANGELES RAMS

In 2020 through week 13, Young had yet to record more than five total tackles in a game and had only one splash play to his name all season. On Thursday against the Patriots, the former fourth-round pick produced eight total tackles, a TFL, a sack, a pass defended, an interception, and a touchdown. A third-year linebacker, Young’s future could be bright. Keep an eye on the UCLA product in 2021 and beyond.

Khari Willis – S – INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

After missing Week 13 against the Texans, Willis made up for lost time this week against the Raiders. In the game, the Michigan State alum notched six total tackles, two passes defended, and scored on an interception. At 24-years old, Willis looks like a solid IDP option at defensive back for at least the next few seasons barring injury.

NOTABLE INJURIES

Jordan Phillips – DE – ARIZONA CARDINALS

Phillips aggravated a hamstring injury that forced him to miss a month before this week. Unfortunately, the injury will force Phillips to miss even more time. His absence leaves Angelo Blackson and Leki Fotu poised for increased snaps going forward.

Justin Reid – S – HOUSTON TEXANS

Reid, a third-year player out of Stanford was having an excellent season in 2020. Unfortunately, the safety sustained a thumb injury that required season-ending surgery. A.J. Moore and Lonnie Johnson are the top candidates to start at strong safety in Houston the rest of the year.
