Elijah Sarratt – Devy Player Profile

I’m currently in the middle of a Campus startup draft for a C2C league with a bunch of DFF members and subscribers, and I got the inspiration to write a Devy profile article on Elijah Sarratt after selecting him at the 13.09 spot. Sarratt may not be a household name in the Devy community yet, but I have a feeling he will be after this 2024 season. I’d advise you to hop on the rocket ship and take a shot on this young man in your Devy and C2C leagues before the price of admission goes up. Let’s take a look at his prospect profile and see what his game is all about.

2022- St. Francis (PA)

Coming from Colonial Forge High School in Virginia, Sarratt received little D1 interest. He was a 3-star recruit, according to On3, and unranked on the other three major recruiting platforms. Sarratt played WR and DB and also was a kick and punt returner for Colonial Forge, earning all-state honors as a DB. He signed with St. Francis University after high school, making an immediate impact for the Red Flashes.

As a true freshman, Sarratt appeared in all 12 games for St. Francis, helping to lead them to the FCS playoffs for the second time in school history. Elijah finished the season with 65 targets, 41 receptions, and 696 receiving yards, leading this team in receiving touchdowns with 13. He earned FCS Freshman All-American honors and was named first-team All-Northeastern Conference. Following his breakout freshman season, Sarratt transferred to James Madison to play alongside his brother, Josh.

2023 – James Madison

Sarratt picked up right where he left off in Year 2, establishing himself as the clear WR1 for this Dukes offense. Elijah earned 99 targets, hauling 82 receptions for 1,199 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023. Here are some advanced metrics from his analytical profile in 2023:

  • 23.4% target rate
  • 2.92 yards per route run
  • 14.6% first downs per route run
  • 78.9% contested catch percentage

Sarratt ranked in the Top 25 in the nation in receiving yards, receptions, and receptions per game in 2023. He surpassed 100 receiving yards in five different games for JMU, earning first-team All-Sun Belt honors. Sarratt began receiving tons of attention from major programs around the country, including Wisconsin, Purdue, West Virginia, South Carolina, and Utah. He first visited head coach Curt Cignetti in Bloomington and decided he didn’t need to visit elsewhere. Cignetti told Sarratt everything he wanted to hear, and Sarratt signed with the Hoosiers immediately after.

2024 Projections – Indiana University

Those of you that have followed me on Twitter/X for a while know I’m a die-hard Purdue fan. Needless to say, I would have loved to see Sarratt in gold and black next season, and it stings even worse that he’ll be wearing cream and crimson. However, as a Dynasty, Devy, and C2C player, I have high hopes for Elijah heading into 2024.

Kurtis Rourke is the clear favorite to be the Hoosiers’ signal-caller next season. Heading into his sixth and final collegiate season, Rourke has played 36 career games, throwing for over 7,500 yards and 50 touchdowns. He has the experience IU desperately needs against Big Ten competition and should revive this offense in 2024.

IU lacked that true alpha receiver last season, with nobody even hitting 700 receiving yards and only Donaven McCulley surpassing 400 yards. Sarratt is in a perfect position to step into the WR1 role for Rourke, especially at the rate he’s improved over these past two seasons. He had a decent spring game, showing off his speed and route-running abilities, grabbing four receptions for 34 yards on the night. We’re hoping for more in-season, but this is a good start.

Dynasty/Devy Value

In this C2C startup, I was able to take Elijah Sarratt at the 13.09 spot, which I felt was a steal. Campus drafts are a bit different from Devy drafts, as we’re not just looking for guys who project well at the NFL level. I think Sarratt has “NFL starter” in his range of outcomes, but he still needs to develop as a receiver. I think this pick was a nice combination of college production and potential NFL production. Sarratt is a 6’2″, 210-pound prototypical x-receiver who can also play in the slot. He’ll be eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft, but barring a legendary season, I expect him to stay in Bloomington for two years.

In Campus drafts, if you can grab Sarratt in the early double-digit rounds of your startup, I’d soak in that value without question. I imagine Elijah will be available for a last-round dart throw in your Devy startup and supplemental drafts, and I encourage you to make that bet. I prefer to target guys like Sarratt, who have shown consistent production with my late-round picks, even if it was lesser competition. He’s excelled at every level up to this point, and there’s no reason for me to believe he can’t continue that success in the Big Ten.
