In this series, I’ll spotlight the standout performances from the 2024 rookie class and highlight both promising and concerning trends. Letโs dive into how these rookies fared in their NFL debuts.
Quarterback
Three rookie quarterbacks made their NFL debuts in Week 1, and while none had a perfect start, there were notable takeaways.
Good Signs
- Jayden Daniels: Daniels showcased his fantasy potential with his impressive rushing ability. Despite facing a strong Buccaneers’ defense on the road, his passing stats were modest โ 17 completions on 24 attempts for 184 yards. However, his 16 rushing attempts for 88 yards and two touchdowns significantly boosted his fantasy value.
Ominous Signs
- Caleb Williams: Although Williams secured a win in his debut, thereโs room for growth. Against a tough Titans defense, he completed just 14 of 28 passes for 93 yards and fumbled once, which was recovered by the Bears.
- Bo Nix: Playing in Seattle’s challenging environment, Nix struggled, completing 26 of 42 passes for 138 yards with two interceptions.

Running Back
Week 1 was relatively quiet for rookie running backs, which was expected. Nevertheless, a few trends are worth noting.
Good Signs
- Bucky Irving: Irving had the most notable performance among rookie running backs, rushing for 62 yards on nine carries and adding 14 yards on two receptions from three targets.
Ominous Signs
- Blake Corum: Corum saw no snaps or carries in his NFL debut. While this can change throughout the season, his debut was less than ideal.
Rookie to Watch in Week 2
- Jaylen Wright (Miami): Set to make his NFL debut on Thursday Night Football against the Bills. With Raheem Mostert out and Devon Achane active, Wright has a prime opportunity to showcase his skills in a favorable running back situation.
Wide Receiver
Good Signs
- Jalen McMillan: McMillan played 83% of snaps as the Buccaneers’ third receiver, catching one pass for a 32-yard touchdown on three targets.
- Brian Thomas Jr.: Played 77% of snaps, with four receptions on four targets for 47 yards and a touchdown.
- Xavier Worthy: Logged 63% of snaps, catching two passes on three targets for 47 yards, a touchdown, plus another 24-yard rushing touchdown.
Ominous Signs
- Marvin Harrison Jr.: Harrison’s performance was underwhelming, with only one reception on three targets for four yards despite playing 80% of snaps. While it’s early, Dynasty owners may want to temper expectations.
- Rome Odunze Played 77% of snaps but had only one reception on four targets for 11 yards. He also left the game with an MCL sprain, considered week-to-week.
Rookie to Watch in Week 2
- Malik Nabers: Nabers played 100% of snaps, leading the Giants with five receptions on seven targets for 66 yards. He could have a breakout performance in a favorable matchup against the Commanders.
Tight End
Good Signs
- Brock Bowers: Bowers finished as the TE3 in a lackluster week for tight ends. He played 68% of snaps, catching six passes on eight targets for 58 yards. As my TE1 in the Dynasty, Iโm eager to see his season unfold.
Ominous Signs
- Ben Sinnott: Sinnott played only 22% of snaps and received no targets.
- JaโTavion Sanders: Sanders played 73% of snaps but caught just one pass on one target for four yards.
Conclusion
Week 1 was a mixed bag for the 2024 rookie class. While many had underwhelming starts, these players have plenty of time to turn things around. Iโll be back next week to recap the highs and lows from Week 2โs rookie performances!
