During his first three collegiate seasons, Johnson suited up for the Troy Trojans. He predominantly served as a reserve during his redshirt Freshman season, playing in 11 games and hauling in 18 receptions for 211 yards. Johnson broke out during the 2021 season, earning Third-Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors while leading the team with 67 receptions, 735 yards, and four touchdowns. During his final season at Troy, Johnson was an Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt player, as he led the team again with 56 receptions for 863 yards and four touchdowns. Before the 2023 season, he decided to transfer to Oregon, and he made an immediate impact right away. Johnson finished the 2023 season with 86 receptions, 1,182 yards, and 10 touchdowns. His efforts earned him Honorable Mention All-Pac 12 honors. Last season, he turned in a Second-Team All-Big Ten Conference season as a wide receiver and return specialist. Johnson produced one punt return touchdown, 83 receptions, 898 yards, and 10 touchdowns in his final season. Fun fact: In 2018, he moved in with his high school teammate, Bo Nix, before attending Troy. Nix played a key role in Johnsonโ€™s decision to transfer to Oregon, reuniting with his former high school teammate/roommate.ย

STRENGTHS

Production profile is stellar. Great experience as a tenured collegiate prospect. Tremendous burst and tempo, as he manipulates defenders with his crafty route tree. Soft, natural hands and excels out of the slot. Exceptional spatial awareness, often excelling in open space, and has a knack for making defenders miss with ease. Shows great separation on deep curl routes. Superb deep speed who tends to get quicker through his deep routes.ย

WEAKNESSESย

Very small frame, which may cause durability concerns. Lacks ideal strength, as he struggles against physical defenders playing press coverage. Lack of strength will translate to poor blocking capabilities at the pro level. Needs to improve on his cuts in and out of breaks while running his routes, tends to round off too many. On film, there are way too many body catches rather than hauling in passes with his extended hands. Drops too many easy throws as well.ย

ATHLETIC TESTING

At the NFL combine, Johnson measured in at 5โ€™10โ€ and 154 lbs, which equates to a BMI of 21.9. He ran a disappointing 4.51-second 40-yard dash (68th), equating to a lackluster 71.4 speed score (2nd percentile). Johnson also displayed a 10.8 agility score (93rd percentile), a 128.4 burst score (83rd percentile), and a college dominator score of 32.8 percent (64th percentile).ย

Johnson shows elite agility skills, as he finished with the top overall 3-cone time at 6.65 seconds amongst 12 wide receivers at the NFL Combine. He also finished fourth with a 4.15-second 20-yard shuttle time as well. His 4.51-second 40-yard dash was disappointing, as he placed 29th out of 39. Johnson also put together a 1.53-second 10-yard split. He showed off his excellent leaping abilities with a 37โ€ vertical jump (16th best in the group) and a 131โ€ broad jump (fourth best in the group). His biggest red flag is his frame, as he only weighs 154 lbs.ย

DRAFT ANALYSISย

nfl

Rapid Reaction to Draft Capital: Excellent

Rapid Reaction to Landing Spot: Average

Johnson was selected with the 235th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.ย

Tampa decided to add another rookie wide receiver to their wide receiver arsenal. Johnson joins Emeka Egbuka in a deep receiver room that features Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Jalen McMillan. Expect Johnson to battle Sterling Shepard, Rakim Jarrett, and Trey Palmer for a spot behind those top four guys.ย ย ย

FANTASY INSIGHTS

Johnson received a sixth-round grade from me before the draft, and I had him as the 18th-ranked wide receiver.ย

In your rookie drafts, Johnson should go undrafted because of the landing spot. Heโ€™s going to have to work his tail off even to make the 53-man roster. With Evans, Godwin, McMillan, and Egbuka locked in as the WR1-4, itโ€™s hard to picture Johnson becoming a regular contributor. If you love the prospect and feel the need to stash him on your taxi squad, feel free. But he is not a player that needs to be rostered in dynasty leagues right now.ย ย
