DFF Draft Coverage: Amari Rodgers to the Packers

Amari Rodgers | Clemson   5’10” 211 lbs.   09/23/1999 (Age 21)

Amari Rodgers was drafted 85th overall by the Green Bay Packers, becoming the 13th wide receiver and 85th overall player in the 2021 NFL Draft.

COLLEGE PRODUCTION

Year  Games Played   Receptions   Yards   Yards/Catch   TDs
 2017 (FR)  12  19  123  6.5  0
 2018 (SO)  15  55  575  10.5  4
 2019 (JR)  13  30  426  14.2  4
 2020 (SR)   12  77  1,020  13.2  7

Rodgers played four full seasons with Clemson, and he didn’t produce high-level statistics until his Senior season. In his four-year college career, Rodgers produced a total of 181 receptions for 2,144 yards and 15 touchdowns. After his Freshman season, we caught glimpses of Rodgers starting to mold into a college star. He caught 55 passes for 575 yards and four touchdowns during his sophomore season. Unfortunately, he took a step back and caught 25 fewer passes and only produced 426 yards and four touchdowns his Junior year. Finally, he took over as one of the best pass-catchers in the nation in his final season at Clemson. He produced career-highs in receptions (77), receiving yards (1,020), and receiving touchdowns (7). His 1,020 receiving yards placed him 10th amongst all wide receivers in Division 1 last season. He has the talent and experience to become a reliable target and return specialist at the pro level.

STRENGTHS

Rodgers has a great burst off the line of scrimmage, and he shows terrific quickness in and out of breaks. The Clemson product shows excellent hands, and he adjusts to errant throws accordingly. He plays bigger than his size while also showing off excellent punt return skills.

WEAKNESSES

He doesn’t shed tackles well, and a single defender usually has no issue taking him down. Rodgers lacks a deep burst down the field, and he lacks the ability to pluck balls high in the air. He also comes into the draft with only one year of high-level receiving statistics.

ATHLETIC TESTING

At his Clemson Pro Day, Rodgers measured in at 5’10” and 211 lbs. Which equates to a BMI of 30.85. He ran a 4.51-second 40-yard dash, equating to a 102.48-Speed Score, and at 5’10” that is a 95.67-Height Adjusted Speed Score. His Speed Score ranks in the 70th percentile, whereas his HASS ranks in the 50th percentile. Rodgers’ Pro Day performance was up-and-down. He showed elite strength by recording 24 reps at 225 lbs on the Bench Press. That places him tied for second amongst all wide receivers entering the draft. His 33” vertical jump indicates that he is less than spectacular when it comes to leaping abilities. BUT he did produce a good broad jump (123”). Rodgers lacks top speed, but he shows off tremendous strength at his position.

DRAFT ANALYSIS

Rapid Reaction to Draft Capital: Excellent

Rapid Reaction to Landing Spot: Excellent

Rodgers was selected with the 85th-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. He joins a great wide receiver room that includes: Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling

FANTASY INSIGHTS

Rodgers will likely serve as a WR3/4 for the Packers. Don’t expect a ton of fantasy impact right away (especially if Aaron Rodgers gets traded), but he could burst onto the scene midway through the season. Rodgers should have no issues adapting his game to the pro level, and he could become a serviceable slot receiver for years to come. He’s a top-15 wide receiver in this class, and he should be a top-75 wide receiver overall this year. Rodgers projects to be a WR6/7 starting the season, and he’s worth drafting in Dynasty Leagues in the mid-to-late rounds. From a Dynasty standpoint, don’t give up on Rodgers if he doesn’t produce great numbers during his rookie season. He has all the tools to become a regular starting slot receiver in this league.
