Devy Players to Watch – College GameDay Week 1: ND vs. Texas A&M

Week 1 of the college football season is officially underway, and the College GameDay show will be in College Station, Texas, covering the matchup between #7 Notre Dame and #20 Texas A&M tomorrow. The Aggies come in as 3-point favorites, according to DraftKings. We should have a tight battle on our hands, and more importantly, we’ll have a number of big-name Devy players to keep an eye on in this contest. In this article, I’ll cover all the top Devy talent and my expectations for said players. Let’s take a look at these future NFL prospects.

Conner Weigman | QB | Texas A&M

Conner Weigman has been a player I’ve been high on ever since he took the starting role from Haynes King as a true freshman. He’s a big-bodied, dual-threat quarterback who can absolutely sling it. Weigman’s sophomore season was cut short due to a foot injury, but he comes into Year 3 fully healthy and ready to build his NFL Draft stock. Unfortunately for Conner, superstar wide receiver Evan Stewart has transferred to Oregon, and sophomore RB Rueben Owens is out for the season with a leg injury. His top receivers appear to be Jahdae Walker, Noah Thomas, and Louisiana transfer Cyrus Allen. All three of these guys have put up respectable numbers in their careers, but they are no Evan Stewart. We’ll see how Weigman fares with this surrounding cast; I do love his skillset from a fantasy perspective and think he has the ability to declare in 2025 and get some favorable draft capital.

leonard

Riley Leonard | QB | Notre Dame

Riley Leonard is the new man under center for the Irish this season. He’s coming over from Duke, where he had a slightly underwhelming career in most Devy players’ eyes. Like Weigman, Leonard has dealt with some recent injury troubles of his own, undergoing a second surgery on his ankle this past Spring. Recovery went well, and he’s ready for this Week 1 matchup, where he’ll be going up against his former Head Coach, Mike Elko. Leonard has a lot to prove this season if he hopes to have a shot at starting in the NFL one day. I personally don’t think Leonard carries any significant Devy or Dynasty value, but he does provide some decent rushing upside. Leonard has quite a few weapons around him, so everything is in place for him to produce this season.

Le’Veon Moss | RB | Texas A&M

Le’Veon Moss is expected to step into that RB1 role for the Aggies this season after the news that Rueben Owens is out for the year. Moss was a highly sought-after recruit in the 2022 high school class, ranked as a four-star prospect and the fourth overall RB in the country, according to ESPN. He’s entering his junior season, coming off a nice sophomore campaign where he ran for nearly 500 yards, averaging 5.0 YPA. At 6’0″ and 215 lbs, Moss has the size to handle a large workload, but I do expect Amari Daniels and EJ Smith to be thrown into the mix a fair amount. It’s impossible to predict how Owens will return in 2025 after his injury, so there’s a real chance Moss impresses this season and will be featured back for the Aggies in 2025 as well. I think he has a future in the NFL, but he will need to stay all four years and declare in 2026 to have the best odds of success.

love

Jeremiyah Love | RB | Notre Dame

Jeremiyah Love is one of my favorite young RB prospects in college football. Earlier this offseason, I wrote a full piece on why I’m so bullish on Love as a Devy asset, which you can check out here. Love posted some ridiculous numbers in high school, earning Gatorade Player of the Year honors in Missouri. He has blazing speed, running a 10.76 100-meter time in high school as well. Love played behind Audric Estime as a true freshman but was still an important part of this offense, seeing 78 total touches for 462 scrimmage yards and a pair of touchdowns. Now, Love is expected to take on a much larger role as both a rusher and receiver. He’ll split this backfield with Jadarian Price, another four-star recruit who showed great promise last season. I think the rushing work may be split evenly between the two, but Love will see most of the passing-down work. The fact Love is so versatile has me really excited about his future as a Dynasty asset.

Jaden Greathouse | WR | Notre Dame

Like Jeremiyah Love, Jaden Greathouse is also entering his true sophomore season and appears to be set for a much bigger role. As a freshman, Greathouse compiled 18 total receptions for 252 yards and five touchdowns, establishing himself as one of the better receivers in his class. Greathouse is a nuanced route runner with impressive hands and the ability to high-point the ball over top of his defenders. I don’t think Greathouse will be the WR1 for Riley Leonard this season; that role will likely go to Clemson transfer Beaux Collins. But with Collins, I don’t see him developing into a true NFL producer, whereas with Greathouse, I think he has some elite characteristics and incredible potential. He knows how to make that highlight grab, and I’d be looking to buy him on all Devy rosters.
