Week 5 gave us several situations I want to attack on the C2C waiver wire. We have young players earning bigger workloads, established players becoming more useful on the campus side, and a few opportunities where we can get there before everybody else does. The approach stays the same. Win the campus side first, then look at C2C appreciation, youth, and ceiling.
Every recommendation assumes a $100 C2C FAAB budget.
Overall Waiver Order
- Trae’shawn Brown, RB, Alabama: Add at 15 to 22 percent
- Gio Lopez, QB, Wake Forest: Add at 12 to 18 percent
- Tylik Hill, RB, Syracuse: Add at 10 to 16 percent
- Kwazi Gilmer, WR, Nebraska: Add at 9 to 14 percent
- George Pettaway, RB, James Madison: Add at 8 to 14 percent if available
- Que’Sean Brown, WR, Virginia Tech: Add at 7 to 11 percent
- Preston Douglas, TE, NC State: Add at 5 to 9 percent
- Louis Brown IV, WR, Baylor: Add at 4 to 8 percent
Quarterbacks
Gio Lopez, Wake Forest
Lopez completed 20 of 27 passes for 265 yards and 2 touchdowns while adding 12 carries for 88 yards and 3 touchdowns against Stanford. Through five games, he has completed 98 of 151 passes for 1,377 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 1 interception while adding 192 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns.
Running Backs
Trae’shawn Brown, Alabama
Brown led Alabama’s running backs with 14 carries for 66 yards and 2 touchdowns while adding 2 receptions for 12 yards against Mississippi State. Through five games, the true freshman has 42 carries for 211 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns.
Tylik Hill, Syracuse
Hill handled 28 carries for 140 yards against UConn, giving him 46 carries for 287 yards and 1 touchdown through three games, while adding 1 reception for 5 yards.
George Pettaway, James Madison
Pettaway rushed 14 times for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns against Marshall, including touchdown runs of 73 and 33 yards. Through five games, he has 74 carries for 497 yards and 6 rushing touchdowns.
Wide Receivers
Kwazi Gilmer, Nebraska
Gilmer caught 11 passes for 147 yards and 2 touchdowns against Maryland. Through five games, he has 29 receptions for 387 yards and 6 touchdowns. This is not one big Saturday because Gilmer entered Week 5 with 18 receptions for 240 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Que’Sean Brown, Virginia Tech
Brown had another big game against Pitt, finishing with at least 6 receptions, more than 140 receiving yards, and 1 touchdown. Through Week 5, he has 33 receptions for 371 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Louis Brown IV, Baylor
Brown caught 6 passes for 68 yards and 1 touchdown against Arizona State. Through Week 5, he has 15 receptions for 253 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Tight Ends
Preston Douglas, NC State
Douglas caught 5 passes for a career-high 74 yards against Louisville after posting 5 receptions for 46 yards the previous week. Through five games, he has 19 receptions for 241 yards and 1 touchdown.
Early Pipeline Targets
Caleb “Jet” Smith, Arizona
Smith is a true freshman with 9 receptions on 14 targets for 125 yards and 1 touchdown through five games. He flashed against Washington State with 3 receptions for 86 yards and his first receiving touchdown.
KD Jones, Oklahoma State
Jones is a true freshman who has played in one game this season, rushing 7 times for 54 yards and 1 touchdown against Murray State. He also brings an impressive high school résumé with 4,742 rushing yards and 67 touchdowns.
My call: Keep him on the early pipeline watch list before the opportunity arrives.
