RUNNING BACK, TEXAS, ELIGIBLE FOR NFL DRAFT IN 2023
Robinson is a 6’0” and 222 lbs. five-star running back. He was the RB1 in his class and the 15th overall recruit. Robinson is 247’s 39th ranked running back all-time.
PAST PRODUCTION (COLLEGE STATS)
As a freshman, Robinson played in nine games, he was not utilized early in the season but took over as the primary ball carrier by the end of the season. He only rushed the ball 86 times, but he was efficient with his touches. Robinson finished with 703 yards on the ground for an average of 8.2 per rush. He found the endzone four times on the ground.
Robinson proved to be a capable pass catcher with 15 catches. He turned those catches into 196 yards and two more TDs. Robinson had a dominator rating of 15% and an adjusted dominator rating of 17%, both qualifying him for a true freshman breakout at the age of 18.7 years old.
2021 OUTLOOK/PERFORMANCE
Incumbent starting running back from 2020 Keontay Ingram has transferred out of the program to USC, which opens the door for Robinson to be a featured back. Starting quarterback Sam Ehlinger also graduated and is progressing through the NFL Draft process. The two departures leave 166 vacated rush attempts (45%) which Robinson is the presumptive recipient of.
I highlighted Robinson’s breakout performance this year, which made it clear that Sean Drayton, the running backs coach, was a driver for recruiting Robinson to Texas. While Tom Herman is out as the Longhorns head coach, they have retained Drayton. Robinson transferring due to the coaching change is unlikely.
New Head Coach Steve Sarkisian has coached several incredible college running backs. He coached Reggie Bush and LenDale White during his time at USC. More recently he coached up Ronald Jones as a freshman at USC as well as Najee Harris in his final two seasons at Alabama. While Sarkisian wasn’t the running backs coach at any of these spots, he has designed offenses that highlight the running backs and Robinson should be a primary beneficiary.
DEVY ANALYSIS
What’s the outlook for the next 3-5 years?
Robinson is the unquestioned RB1 in the 2023 class and debatably the RB1 in devy overall. You could claim that he is the most valuable devy asset, though in Superflex leagues some people may prefer a quarterback like Spencer Rattler or D.J. Uiagalelei.
While Robinson is the RB1, the position has been sharply devalued by the NFL. He will most likely be selected in the first two days of the NFL Draft, though the potential range of outcomes is very wide at this point. Robinson has not had any major injuries at this point in his career.
Robinson is justly a top devy asset, though throughout the offseason the distance between him and Jahmyr Gibbs or Tank Bigsby might be exaggerated, presenting a sell-window to pivot to one of those two players
