With the 21st overall selection in the fifth round, Fromm goes to Buffalo as a backup to Josh Allen and nothing more than an insurance policy. I am sure he will be able to develop and the NFL believes he needs time to learn since he went as the eighth QB off the board. He doesn’t show the arm strength of other selections and has been called a game manager at best, but perhaps UGA preferred a ground attack and he wasn’t able to showcase his talents. Only time will tell.
Jake Fromm played three seasons at the University of Georgia, starting as a freshman when Jacob Eason injured his knee. He took over and never gave the starting job up. Fromm is often considered a game manager by football communities and doesn’t possess the talent to set records in the NFL. He is your average, run of the mill game manager for the NFL, and he isn’t exciting for your dynasty team either.
Fromm has a smaller hand size than Joe Burrow, the number one overall selection from this year’s draft, and that was the largest concern for the Bengals new signal-caller leading up to their selection. Jake Fromm doesn’t make bad decisions and will make sure his offense is put in a position to win the game, but he isn’t going to post amazing stats for your personal roster on a weekly basis. His film and statistics at Georgia show he is average at best. He does have clutch moments and the ability to perform under pressure, but other than that, he lacks arm talent unlike other QBs in this draft class.

Fromm’s stats don’t jump off the page and get people excited for the possible fantasy production to come. He lacks an ability to run giving him a safe baseline like most fantasy-relevant options and isn’t a world-beater through the air limiting his potential. I would feel comfortable letting other teams rely on him in your rookie drafts and wouldn’t take him until the end of the third round. Fromm needs to work on ball placement. Often while watching his film, he would miss receivers by just a bit or prohibit them from doing more after the catch. Often making bad decisions to throw on his back foot or inaccurately will not do well against tighter windows at the next level for Fromm. I can expect Fromm to be a project for his new team. He won’t see the field unless an injury happens, and therefore should be treated the same in your dynasty leagues. Allow him to develop and perhaps he will find his way into a QB2 role for Superflex teams, but for now, let him sit on the bench and grow.
No more than an insurance policy and no real special traits that set him apart, I would personally ignore Fromm just like the NFL teams did in the draft. If Josh Allen is hurt, Fromm offers limited upside for a team that would limp by without their featured QB. Don’t take him until the fourth round of rookie drafts and let him sit on your taxi squad until he is anything more than a backup. The game manager that he was at Georgia should translate well to a Bills team that runs the ball primarily, but he will limit the offense seeing that his ability to rush is nowhere near Allens. Perhaps other teams preferred the possibility of signing Winston or Cam in free agency after this draft is all said and done, but no one predicted the slide of this QB.
