Film Analysis

Running: Jason Huntley is a smaller back who offers upside in a change of pace role. He offers solid vision and creative moves in the open field. He also has good bursts out of his cuts with the ball. His vision is okay and he had some fumbling issues in his collegiate career. He projects mostly as a special teamer as a kick and punt returner. In college, Huntley returned five kicks for touchdowns.

Receiving: Huntley displays good burst out his cuts as a route runner as well and is a legitimate receiving threat.

Pass Blocking: Not a great pass blocker in college, Huntley shouldn’t be asked to pass protect in college.

Landing Spot Reaction

Jason Huntley is headed to an extremely crowded backfield in Detroit. They just drafted D’Andre Swift in round two and they have Kerryon. Huntley won’t be asked to do any running in that offense and should serve as a special teams returner only.

Swift and Kerryon Johnson will be the one and two in that offense. Huntley doesn’t impact the value of either players. Kerryon Johnson was already on the decline after Swift was drafted, and this could be another pick showing how little Detroit believes he can stay healthy.

Dynasty Draft Projection

Jason Huntley is currently the RB3 on his own team. He should go undrafted in most rookie drafts that are four rounds long. If you are in a league that offers points for return yards, Huntley may offer upside as a long-term change of pace back in Detroit’s offense if Kerryon Johnson can’t stay healthy. He’s a name to monitor and could become interesting if Johnson gets moved, but he’s still a low upside long-term fantasy option.
