Devy Players of the Week – Week 1

Welcome to Week 1 of my new series, “Devy Player of the Week”. In this series, I’ll cover the top college performers from each offensive fantasy position (QB, RB, WR, TE) every week. Because this is Devy, I will focus on spotlighting players I believe could play a role on our Dynasty rosters down the line. We have two more games on this week’s CFB slate, as the NFL season hasn’t begun yet. #13 LSU and #23 USC face off in Las Vegas tonight, and #10 Florida State looks to bounce back from their Week 0 loss as they host Boston College on Monday night. Be sure to keep an eye out for any standout performers in these contests. In the meantime, let’s look at the top Devy players from the Thursday-Saturday games.

Quarterback

Shedeur Sanders – Colorado

26-34, 445 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT

6 carries, 17 yards

Shedeur and the Buffaloes snuck out a close win over FCS powerhouse North Dakota State on Thursday night, largely due to Sanders’ play at quarterback. Sanders threw for 445 yards and four touchdowns, three of which went to WR Travis Hunter. Sanders’ lack of pocket presence is still apparent and cause for concern regarding future NFL projections, but there’s no denying his raw talent and athleticism. This Colorado defense is pretty terrible, and I expect them to struggle mightily in Big 12 play this season. This means Sanders will need to air it out to have a prayer of staying in these games. I’ll be interested to see how Shedeur handles the pressure; as of now, many experts are projecting him to be a Round 1 pick in next year’s NFL draft. He’ll need to prove himself as a processor before I’m fully bought in, but I can see the appeal from a fantasy perspective.

nico

Nico Iamaleava – Tennessee

22-28, 314 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INT

4 carries, 6 yards

Tennessee had no trouble crushing their FCS opponent, Chattanooga, in Week 1. While this was never a game, Nico still showed why he’s considered the Devy QB1 overall by many. Nico only played in the first half, leading the Vols to a 45-0 lead. Nico threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in just one half, setting a school record for most passing yards in the first half. Nico and Tennessee will face NC State next week, so we’ll see how he fares against tougher competition. I’m excited to see how he develops, and I think we could be looking at the future 1.01 in 2026 Superflex rookie drafts.

Running Back

Ashton Jeanty – Boise State

20 carries, 267 yards, 6 TDs

3 receptions, 4 yards

Ashton Jeanty broke the Boise State school record for rushing touchdowns Saturday, finding pay dirt SIX TIMES. The Broncos struggled with Georgia Southern for most of the game, finally pulling away in the fourth quarter to win 56-45. This past May, I wrote a 2025 Superflex rookie mock draft series (you can check that out here), and I had Jeanty as my 1.09 pick and the RB3 in the class. I’m not sure one game against Georgia Southern warrants moving him up the ranks, but he put up some video game numbers this weekend. Jeanty has the size, strength, speed, coordination, and receiving upside to become an excellent NFL back as soon as next year, and he may just be my RB1 in the class now.

Jonah Coleman – Washington

16 carries, 127 yards, 3 TDs

2 receptions, 19 yards

There were about a million different names I could have listed as POTW for the RB position. So, as a tie-breaker, I’ll list one of “my guys”, Jonah Coleman. I’ve been high on Coleman since his Arizona days; you can check out my Devy profile article on him earlier this year here. Coleman followed his HC, Jedd Fisch, from Arizona to Washington this offseason, and I expect him to have a breakout season and earn some NFL attention. Coleman is an incredibly efficient rusher, and last night was no different, averaging 7.9 YPA and 5.63 YCO/A. Now, this was against Weber State, so don’t get too excited. But Coleman also averaged over 5 YCO/A last season, so this is nothing new. PFF graded Coleman as the second-best rusher in Week 1, after Jeanty.

Wide Receiver

Tetairoa McMillan – Arizona

15 targets, 10 receptions, 304 yards, 4 TDs

What can you say about this Week 1 performance other than WOW. Tet McMillan is a different breed. I know it’s early, but he’s building the case that he should be the 1.01 in 2025 Superflex rookie drafts. He’s certainly my WR1 of the class, over Luther Burden, Evan Stewart, and Emeka Egbuka. Everything McMillan does on the field looks so effortless and smooth. He has the size, route-running ability, hands, and athleticism to be a WR1 in the NFL immediately. By next Spring, we could be talking about McMillan with the same level of excitement we were with Marvin Harrison Jr. This guy is ELITE.

concepcion

Kevin Concepcion – NC State

14 targets, 9 receptions, 121 yards, 3 TDs

Kevin “KC” Concepcion is one of the top receivers in this sophomore class, and he showed us why on Thursday. The biggest concern with Concepcion after his freshman All-American season was that he was used more as a gadget player, frequently operating around the line of scrimmage. He didn’t have much of a route tree last season, and there were question marks around his true abilities as a future NFL receiver. I saw him run several impressive routes across the middle this week, leading to touchdowns, so he may be on his way to putting some of those concerns to bed. I’m not sure how NC State struggled for so long against Western Carolina, which is a little concerning. But I expect McCall to rely on KC heavily this season and believe he could flirt with 150 targets if he stays healthy.

Tight End

Oronde Gadsden II – Syracuse

10 targets, 7 receptions, 108 yards, 1 TD

Gadsden was among the top Devy TE prospects heading into the 2023 season. He was coming off a sophomore season where he nearly hit 1,000 receiving yards and hauled in six touchdowns. Unfortunately, he suffered a Lisfranc injury in the second game of the 2023 season, sidelining him for the year. Gadsden is back to full health and reminded us just what kind of prospect he is. After a year off, Gadsden came out and grabbed seven balls for 108 yards and a score. Gadsden has the chance to be Kyle McCord’s top target earner this season and shoot up NFL draft boards.

Colston Loveland – Michigan

9 targets, 8 receptions, 87 yards, 1 TD

Colston Loveland was the one bright spot in an otherwise underwhelming Michigan offense this weekend. Loveland has been my TE1 in this class for a while and was my 1.11 pick in the 2025 Superflex rookie mock draft I did this summer. He’s the one TE I have confidence will make a quick impact on NFL rosters next season. Loveland finished the game with a 39% target rate and 3.78 YPRR, both superb marks. The Wolverines are going to rely on his kid heavily all season long, so he should have a chance to hit 1,000 receiving yards on the year. With an impressive junior campaign, Loveland could be a potential Round 1 NFL prospect.
