Today, I will give you a broad-stroke look at the 2025 wide receiver class with some rapid-fire observations. We will dive far deeper into the class in the coming months.
1. This wide receiver class is uninspiring in total.ย If you combine this year’s class with last year’s class, only four from this yearโs class (Tet McMillan, Travis Hunter, Luther Burden, and Tre Harris) would be in last yearโs top 10 based purely on their pre-draftย WR1 modelย analytical prospect grade coming into the NFL.ย The WR1 model has proven to beat NFL draft capital year after year. You then have to consider the context that Travis Hunter is unlikely to be a full-time wide receiver in the NFL. If he does not play enough to muster up a target share north of 20%, I canโt see spending the draft capital necessary to obtain him in most rookie drafts.
2. It would not be a stretch to see three tight ends be selected before three wide receivers in Dynasty rookie drafts this year. Colston Loveland, Tyler Warren, and Harold Fannin are all excellent tight-end prospects, as I covered in my tight-end triumvirate article
3. Tez Johnson could be Tank Dell 2.0. Hopefully he has better injury luck. He is another little guy, but the NFL has become more accepting of this archetype, with players like Tyreek Hill, Zay Flowers, Jaylen Waddle, and Dell becoming staples in their lineups. Johnson posted a 2.97% contested target rate. This is the best rate by far in this class and the best I have seen since tracking this metric. He is a truly elite separator.
4. One of the top wide receivers in this draft, Emeka Egbuka, had his best season as a sophomore, a rare feat for a four-year player and not usually a good thing. Luther Burden similarly regressed from his breakout sophomore campaign.ย
5. Tre Harris is a fifth-year senior. Fifth-year seniors have a very bad track record of succeeding in the NFL.
6. Tre Harris also posted a 5.15 yards per route run this year. That is insanely good in a very important predictive metric. This is the only YPRR over 5.00 we have since recording this metric in our model. DeVonta Smith is 2nd at 4.39. I am in on Tre Harris despite him being a fifth-year senior.
7. Matthew Golden > Isaiah Bond in 2025 Dynasty Rookie Drafts, even though most mock drafts have him being drafted later.ย Golden quietly broke out as a freshman while the top Houston WR was annihilating defenses. In his only year at Texas, he became the alpha, overcoming the far more heralded Isaiah Bond.
8. Jalen Royals and Ricky White are two highly productive G5 wide receivers who need to be on your radar. They went in the second and third rounds of our DFF analyst mock draft this week.
