2023 DFF Draft Coverage: Jalin Hyatt to the Giants

Jalin Hyatt  |  Tennessee 6’ 176 lbs.  |  9/25/2001 (22)

Jalin Hyatt was drafted by the New York Giants, becoming the 10th Wide Receiver and 73rd overall player in the 2023 NFL Draft.

COLLEGE PRODUCTION

Hyatt was not a big contributor until he broke out in his third season going for 1200 yards and 15 touchdowns on 67 receptions in 2022. Hyatt was an absolute weapon for Tennessee scoring 43% of the touchdowns and averaging 3.3 yards per team pass attempt that season. After this Hyatt was able to declare early for the NFL draft and become a round-three selection.

ANALYTICS AND FILM

Hyatt pops in most data-driven models, including mine. Jalin was primarily used as a deep threat and my model normally weeds those guys out, but Hyatt was able to be efficient and secure volume. He posted a 23% target share along with a massive 43% TD share, giving him a 37.6% dominator rating. These are great numbers. But then from my film buddies, I hear that he scored on a lot of blown plays against bad defenses, and thrived off of manufactured touches. I am not a fan of players that can not create their opportunities and it seems that Hyatt might be one of those guys.

ATHLETIC TESTING

At the combine, Jalin Hyatt measured 6’ and 176 lbs. He ran a good 40-time of 4.40. His three-cone and shuttle times were average to poor at 7.06 and 4.33 respectively. Hyatt performed very well in the vertical and broad jumps, getting 40 and 11.03 in those.

This led to an overall relative size-adjusted athletic score of 8.76 out of 10 which is above average for the class.

DRAFT ANALYSIS

Rapid Reaction to Draft Capital: Average

Rapid Reaction to Landing Spot: Great

Hyatt was selected with the 73rd-overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by the New York Giants.

FANTASY INSIGHTS

I have Hyatt as my WR eight in the class now. He unfortunately fell a bit in the draft and this hurts his potential upside as well as his floor compared to when we thought he would be a top 50 pick in the draft. He did however go to a pretty good spot because the Giants WR room is a mess and there are no proven studs there. If Hyatt can lead the group in targets he could put up WR two numbers, but I do not see him ever being a WR one now.
