DeWayne MvBride | UAB 5’10” 215 lbs. | 07/08/01 (21)
DeWayne McBride was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, becoming the 16th Running Back and 222nd overall player in the 2023 NFL Draft.
COLLEGE PRODUCTION
McBride became a full starter for UAB in his second season where he ran for almost 1,400 yards and 13 touchdowns. He followed this successful campaign by running for 1,700 yards and 19 touches to finish his college career. These are gaudy numbers, unfortunately, McBride was mainly a rusher as he only caught five passes in his final 25 games played. This limits his upside, but we have seen many two-down grinders become successful fantasy players. If McBride is given the chance he could become one of them.
ANALYTICS AND FILM
McBride has great rushing stats but his reception share leaves a lot to be desired. His best season reception share is 1.7%, that number is astronomically low. It ranks 207th out of the 209 players in my RB database, which is the second percentile. But at his cost, this isn’t terrible. He won’t be drafted until the fifth round in most rookie drafts and with the rushing upside he carries I am fine with that price. On film, he is just what you would expect, a great downhill rusher that knows how to work between the tackles.
ATHLETIC TESTING
DeWayne McBride, unfortunately, did not test at the Combine or a Pro Day.

DRAFT ANALYSIS
Rapid Reaction to Draft Capital: Poor
Rapid Reaction to Landing Spot: Average
McBride was selected with the 222nd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings.
FANTASY INSIGHTS
McBride ends up in a currently crowded backfield in the seventh round of the NFL Draft, not ideal for fantasy production. But, there have been Dalvin Cook trade/cut rumors and if that happened McBride is immediately fighting for the RB2 spot on that team. Regardless, day three RB hit rates are superior to day three WR hit rates so McBride is a guy I will be targeting late in drafts often. All it takes is one or two injuries in a position that might be the most easily injured in football for a guy like McBride to produce fantasy points.
