WHAT WE LEARNED THIS WEEK
On a cold, snow-filled, blustery day in Denver, the Kansas City defense and special teams took over the game against the Broncos. When finished with their day, the Chiefs DST had compiled three sacks, two fumbles, two interceptions, and had scored two touchdowns. With the Jets next on the schedule, it’s highly likely you’ll see more of the same next week. Players of IDP consequence this week were Daniel Sorensen, Charvarius Ward, Tyrann Mathieu, and Willie Gay.
The Washington defense put together another stellar defensive effort. In their battle with Dallas, the Football Team racked up six sacks, a safety, and an interception. The squad only gave up three points to the Cowboys offense too! Noteworthy defenders during this game include Cole Holcomb, Montez Sweat, Chase Young, and Landon Collins.
San Francisco played about as well as possible in Foxboro on Sunday. The entire team worked in harmony to take down the Patriots 33-6. A major bright spot was the four interceptions and pair of sacks the defense provided. I wouldn’t expect as many interceptions for the next few games, because the schedule ahead includes Seattle, Green Bay, and New Orleans before the bye. The 49ers stars of week seven, Jamar Taylor, Fred Warner, and Dre Greenlaw, shined brightly.
TOP PLAYER PERFORMANCES
Jerry Hughes – DE – BUFFALO BILLS
Hughes may have had the best game of his career on Sunday. The 11-year veteran created six total tackles, a TFL, a forced fumble, an interception, defended a pass, and two sacks on his afternoon. Relatively unproductive before this outburst, Hughes is unlikely to keep up this type of performance going forward.
Devin White– LB – TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
White had a nice week vs the Packers in week six, then went bonkers this week against the Raiders. Leading the Bucs defense, White put up 11 total tackles, a TFL, an interception, and three sacks from his linebacker position. At 22 years of age, White has fast become a top-five IDP asset. If you roster the young star, you’re a lucky owner.
Budda Baker – S – ARIZONA CARDINALS
Baker is a one-of-a-kind special player. At 24, he’s already one of the top safeties and a top 100 player in the NFL. On Sunday night, he balled out to help the Cardinals get a big win against the Seahawks. His line for the game included 14 total tackles, a TFL, an interception, and a pass defended. He’s a championship-caliber defender for all IDP league formats.
NOTABLE INJURIES
Landon Collins – S – WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM
As mentioned above, Collins had a nice day on Sunday. Unfortunately, it’ll be the last game of the season for the veteran safety. Collins tore his Achilles and was placed on IR. It looks like Washington is interested in Eric Reid as his replacement, so put in a waiver claim to pickup Reid as a nice IDP waiver add this week.
Kyle Phillips – DE – NEW YORK JETS
The second-year defensive linemen of the Jets injured his ankle on Sunday, ending his 2020 season. On the year, Phillips was playing 40% of the team’s defensive snaps and making plays each week. If you have an IR spot available, Phillips could be a nice little stash for 2021. Nathan Shepherd and John Franklin-Myers will now see more snaps in Phillips’ stead
Shaquill Griffin – CB – SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
Griffin is dealing with a concussion issue in addition to a hamstring injury this weekend. The star cornerback could clear concussion protocol and play week eight. However, if he misses time, look for Tre Flowers to be his short term replacement.
