WHAT WE LEARNED THIS WEEK
The Tampa Bay defense put on a clinic Sunday afternoon in Florida. The squad put up five sacks, two interceptions and scored a touchdown while giving up only 201 yards and ten points to Green Bay. Shutting down the league’s most potent offense through four games will put the rest of the NFL on notice. Players who had nice IDP stats on the day include Devin White, Lavonte David, Carlton Davis, Jamel Dean, and Jason Pierre-Paul.
Many fantasy analysts expected the Pittsburgh defense to play well against a banged-up Browns offense. I’m not sure anyone expected utter domination to the tune of four sacks, two interceptions, a touchdown, and just a measly seven points allowed. The way stars like Cameron Heyward, Bud Dupree, Stephon Tuitt, and Minkah Fitzpatrick are playing right now, it’s hard to see the Steelers losing many contests this season.
Credit must be given to the Denver Broncos defenders for their performance up in New England on Sunday. The unit produced four sacks, two interceptions, and a fumble in the win against the Patriots on the road. Players to come away with strong IDP results were Michael Ojemudia, Malik Reed, Justin Simmons, and Alexander Johnson.
TOP PLAYER PERFORMANCES
Calais Campbell – DE – BALTIMORE RAVENS
The 34-year old, 13-year veteran still has plenty of football left in the tank. This fact was verified this weekend by his five total tackles, four TFLs, and three sacks against the Eagles. Campbell continues to be a strong IDP option at defensive end, so start him weekly with confidence.
Tae Crowder – LB – NEW YORK GIANTS
On the opposite side of his career to Campbell, rookie corner Tae Crowder produced his first monster game in the NFL this week. The former Georgia Bulldog recorded ten total tackles and recovered a fumble for a touchdown on the day. If Crowder is available on your waivers, take a look at adding the 7th rounder as an upside play.
Eric Kendricks – LB – MINNESOTA VIKINGS
It’s about time we get the Vikings sixth-year starter in this article. Though he hasn’t made very many splash-plays on this young season, Kendricks has been the model of consistency for IDP purposes this year. Kendricks averages over 11 total tackles per game so far this season. The UCLA alum put up 12 solo tackles and two assists in this week’s game against the Falcons.
NOTABLE INJURIES
Devin Bush – LB – PITTSBURGH STEELERS
Devin Bush suffered a torn ACL against the Browns on Sunday and will miss the rest of the 2020 season. This is a tough blow for Steelers fans and Bush IDP owners alike, as Bush was an enormous part of the Pittsburgh defense. Robert Spillane is expected to start at inside linebacker moving forward.
Darnell Savage – S – GREEN BAY PACKERS
A second-year man out of Maryland, Savage had to leave the game in the third quarter on Sunday with a quad injury. If the 2019 first-rounder has to take time off, players like Raven Greene and Vernon Scott should see more playing time.
Raekwon Davis – DT – MIAMI DOLPHINS
With Davon Godchaux out for three months, many believed that Raekwon Davis could work his way into snaps as a solid run stuffer for the Dolphins defense. Unfortunately, Davis injured his shoulder on Sunday and could miss time. If he does, it’s up to Christian Wilkins to man the middle for Miami.
