Each Saturday, Aaron Larson (@aalarson) and Michael Stephenson (@DFF_MSte) examine the hottest NFL rumors and offer their insights as to any potential fantasy football implications they might have heading into the weekend. So, grab your beverage or snack of choice and get ready to start the week off with some good old-fashioned fantasy football speculation
Rumor: Dalvin Cook will likely be a game-time decision Sunday against Philadelphia.
Fantasy Fallout: Considering the injury and his recent performances Cook is a risky play even if he does suit up. If he doesn’t you can expect Latavius Murray to get the majority of the work in the Minnesota backfield, though his production hasn’t been great either, gaining only 110 total yards and no touchdowns through four games this year. (AL)
Rumor: Bengals running back Giovani Benard is out 2-4 weeks with an MCL sprain, while Joe Mixon is set to return from his absence.
Fantasy Fallout: Mixon was averaging an impressive 14.8 points in PPR scoring in his first two games before the procedure on his knee. If he’s as healthy as it sounds he’s in for a heavy workload against Miami in week five and is a must-start candidate. (AL)
Rumor: Some expect CJ Uzomah to be Cincinnati’s top tight end with Tyler Eifert out for the season.
Fantasy Fallout: If you’re in need of a fill-in at the position Uzomah might not be the worst option. Even more evidence of just how thin the tight end position is for fantasy football right now. (AL)
Rumor: Coach Bill O’Brien said that Lamar Miller is a game-time decision for the Sunday night game against Dallas.
Fantasy Fallout: Miller has seen plenty of volume so far this season, but has failed to have any useful fantasy performances outside of a garbage time receiving touchdown in week three. With the Texans playing the late game Sunday you can’t trust Miller to play unless you have Alfred Blue or a back in the Monday night game in case he doesn’t play. (AL)
Rumor: Steelers offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner admitted he needs to get James Conner more involved early in games.
Fantasy Fallout: Conner hasn’t had much of a fantasy impact since his big week one performance against Cleveland. It’s good news for Conner owners, although it may be temporary as Le’Veon Bell is rumored to be returning during the Steelers week 7 bye. (AL)
Rumor: Free agent Rishard Matthews has signed on with agent Drew Rosenhaus and supposedly has multiple teams interested in signing him.
Fantasy Fallout: Matthews has been a successful receiver in the past with both Miami and Tennesse. When he signs he may be worth a speculative add in deep redraft leagues, but until then he should be on your radar but not your roster. (AL)
Rumor: Ravens 1st draft pick of 2018 TE Hayden Hurst could see the field for the first time this Sunday
Fantasy Fallout: The Ravens have always heavily utilised the TE position and 3 tight ends have shared 29 targets to the position through 4 weeks so far. If Hurst or any other of their TEs emerges as a favourite for Joe Flacco he will be fantasy relevant, in a barron TE landscape, this could be important. (MS)
Rumor: Mark Ingram is “Hungry and ready to play ball”
Fantasy Fallout: Ingram has laid to rest any worries that he won’t be game ready after spending the first 4 games of the season away from the team. Kamara owners should not worry too much about Ingram’s return, both Ingram and Kamara finished as top 5 RBs in several weeks last year. If you have held Ingram all this time you are about to be heavily paid off, and if you didn’t draft him now is the last time you will be able to grab him cheaply, so do it if you can (MS)
Rumor: The Packers officially remove Aaron Rodgers from the injury report
Fantasy Fallout: Aaron Rodgers is eventually back to full practice, but he’s pretty much the only one there right now. Randall Cobb has been ruled out, Geronimo Allison is yet to clear the concussion protocol and Davante Adams is limited with a calf injury. Marquez Valdes-Scantling is next man up but running backs Aaron Jones and Ty Montgomery could also see an uptick in volume if 2 or more of the starting receivers miss this week. (MS)
