Waiver Wire Sniping: Week 6

Last year when this series debuted, I wanted to help shed light on one of my favorite tricks in Fantasy Football, Waiver Wire Sniping. The strategy is simple. Without compromising your roster (of course), look to see if you have an available roster spot or a player that you were holding as a possible fill-in for a week that is no longer needed. Then look a week or two ahead and see if any of your current starters are on a bye or have a matchup you want to avoid. By picking up a streaming option or high-end stash before the weekend action, you can “snipe” that player for free and before that player is featured on podcasts (such as the Fantasy Football Fellas podcast – shameless plug) and waiver articles across the fantasy football world.

“Sniping” allows you to eliminate the grueling wait on Wednesday or Thursday morning, hoping your Waiver Wire pick-up isn’t grabbed by another team with a lower waiver priority or more FAAB dollars. If the chips fall your way, you may have a very valuable piece for the low-low price of NOTHING.

Each week I’ll be giving you potential steaming options for the week ahead, some stash candidates that are widely available in redraft leagues and highlighting the tough matchups and teams on bye in the coming week.

Here are some guys that you might not necessarily need for this week but might be high Waiver Wire pickups for week 6.

Week 6 Streaming Options

Jameis Winston @ ATL (17%) – Jameis is the definition of Waiver Wire Sniping. If you’re a QB streamer, this is the guy to add. Jameis will be coming off the bye next week and walking straight into a cakewalk of a schedule over the next 3 weeks – @ATL, CLE, @CIN. I think we’ll be looking at shootouts in all three games.

Duke Johnson vs. LAC (37%) – Duke has been a disappointment this year after a nice 2017, but his 6 targets last week from Baker Mayfield were tied for the most for him in a game this season, which is encouraging. I don’t believe that the Browns will automatically be chasing point in this game as the Chargers are prone to lay an egg and with the noon start time for a west coast team this one might be more competitive than people think. However, if Cleveland is chasing, Duke could be a fine PPR fill-in flex in week 6.

Chris Godwin @ ATL (39%) – For the love of all that is holy, please add Chris Godwin! I know he’s on a bye this week which is why his ownership is down 8% this week, but the kid is a must add in all leagues. Godwin had 10+ points in three of the first four games, and as stated with Jameis above, he has great matchups ahead of him coming off the bye week.

Taylor Gabriel @ MIA (17%) – Another WR coming off a bye week in week 6, Gabriel had a HUGE game in week 4, but I do not feel that you’re “chasing points” too much here. If Anthony Miller remains out, Gabriel could carry some nice value. He’s had 24 targets over his last three games, which I would look to continue if he’s the WR2 for the Bears.

Cameron Brate @ ATL (29%) – I won’t beat a dead horse here. O.J. Howard will be out next week, maybe longer. Winston is back. Great matchups ahead. The end.

C.J. Uzomah/Tyler Kroft vs. PIT (25/3%) – I think Brate is the clear TE add, but I’ll give you a few more names for the many of you out there that are continuing to throw darts at TE. According to Football Outsiders, Uzomah has out snapped Kroft 59% to 34% on the year, so he’s probably the TE to own in Cincinnati. However, Kroft did have 7 TDs last season and was TE11 on the year in Standard scoring leagues. With matchups against PIT, KC, and TB, if one of these guys turns into the primary TE, they could be usable over the next few weeks.

Hayden Hurst @ TEN (5%) – A deeper stash, but I wanted to highlight him here. Hurst has a chance to suit up this week, and Baltimore has been targeting their variety of TEs quite a bit this season. If the majority of those targets go to Hurst, he could have some definite value in 12 team leagues.

The Stashes – Other players to monitor that might be available in your league. Listed below in order I would rank these pickups.

Shallow League Options: Nick Chubb (42%), Ronald Jones (26%),

Deeper League Options: D’Onta Foreman (9%), Mark Walton (1%), Ty Montgomery (18%), Alfred Blue (3%)

Shallow League Options: Dede Westbrook (47%), Keke Coutee (37%), Antonio Callaway (29%),

Deeper League Options: Taywan Taylor (10%), Cameron Meredith (11%), Donte Moncrief (12%), Marquez Valdes-Scantling (5%)

Week 6 Potential Matchups to Avoid: ARI @ MIN, DAL vs. JAX, DEN vs. LAR, MIA vs. CHI, TEN vs. BAL

Teams on Bye next week: DET, NO
