Don’t have time to read every training camp update? DFF has your back with our Training Camp Primer series. We dive into Team Beat Reporters and reporter Tweets and differentiate between hype and reality. What rookies are impressing early? Who is ready to step into a larger role? What injuries occurred? We sift through it all to give you a leg up on your competition. Check out part one of the training camp primer series here.
Now on to Part 2:
Takeaway
In his prime, James White was the RB8 in PPR for cumulative 2018 and 2019 stats. Pierre Strong has serious potential to fill this role and was drafted in the fourth round of rookie drafts. He posted a blazing fast 4.37 time in the 40-yard dash. He finished his college career with 4,527 yards rushing and 62 receptions. I was expecting another year before White retired but this speeds Strong’s timeline to relevance up. Rhamondre Stevenson is also an underrated pass-catching back and could fill the role as well.
Takeaway
There is a lot to like about Dobbins this year in the run-heavy Greg Roman offensive scheme. If he truly is going to be ready for week one as he says then the wheels are up for the former second-round pick. Once he took over the Ravens backfield his rookie year in Week 11, J.K. Dobbins was the RB8 in fantasy points per game the rest of the season. (Min 5 games).
Takeaway
This is good news coming off a serious Lisfranc injury that forced him to miss all of last year. Etienne has a truly elite ceiling with his pass-catching prowess. At his current value at the back end of RB2s, he will be one of my highest rostered players for redraft leagues. He is the ACC’s all-time leading rusher at 4,952 yards and has a first-round pedigree. James Robinson is still recovering from his Achilles tear and should get eased back into action. Even when he is in full health expect Trevor Lawrence to lean on his college backfield mate heavily in the passing game with Jacksonville in plenty of negative game scripts.
Takeaway
Evans showed promise last year and is noted as having excellent hands. Joe Mixon owners need to take notice of this report. Evans could end up being the primary backup in Cincinnati.
Takeaway
You need to be prepared for Watson not to play at least this year for your dynasty teams. @PsychWardFF goes in-depth on this report here.
Takeaway
Prayers up for John Metchie.
Takeaway
Randy Moss, found the fountain of youth in 2007 in his 30s after joining Tom Brady following multiple bad years in Oakland. Can Julio rekindle his past success? While it may seem unlikely the opportunity will certainly be there while Chris Godwin is sidelined.
Takeaway
Isaiah Likely was a smash value in rounds four and five all dynasty rookie draft season. He remains on the waiver wire in many dynasty leagues which is a travesty. Likely posted a 2.83 (receiving yards per team pass attempt) RYPTPA which was a top ten score since 2004. He had four catches for 44 yards in his first preseason game. Look for him to see the field a lot alongside Andrews and Bateman. He was a major part of leading Coastal Carolina to 22 wins in the last two years. His testing wasn’t elite which “likely” dropped him a few spots lower in rookie drafts.
Takeaway
The Eagles offense has a chance to be dynamic this year with the addition of A.J. Brown. Gainwell could be a nice sleeper/breakout pick. Remember he started over Antonio Gibson at running back for Memphis. Sanders has been noted to be “our guy” by Nick Sirianni but actions speak louder than words.
Takeaway
This is not a surprise given Robinson’s elite analytical profile. He broke out at the tender age of 18 and led all prospects in this class in RYPTPA with a 3.64. The fact he did what he did at his height in the SEC gives me confidence he can do it in the NFL also. Wan’Dale Robinson and Isaiah Likely were my two favorite values throughout rookie draft season.
Takeaway
Tough news for Patrick as he will miss the season with a torn ACL. The Broncos have one of the deepest wide receiver groups in the NFL so if any team can sustain this it is them. Look for Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Greg Dulcich, KJ Hamler and Albert O to all take a step forward in targets to fill this loss.
Takeaway
Irv Smith is a popular breakout pick at tight end this year. This could set back his early involvement in the offense.
Takeaway
If you can salvage anything from your Golladay dynasty shares you should do it soon. He is washed up.
Takeaway
As a seventh-rounder, Pacheco was being drafted late in rookie dynasty drafts. But the Chiefs backfield is there for the taking and he runs a 4.37 40 with good size, 215 lbs. Pacheco has been working with the first-team offense on occasion as well.
Takeaway
The fact Rudolph is in the driver’s seat to be the Steelers starter is an indictment on Kenny Pickett. I’ve had my reservations about Pickett since before rookie drafts after his ascension in college seemed to occur with the arrival of Jordan Addison. His first-round rookie draft ADP made him an easy fade for me.
Takeaway
This is one to keep a close eye on. Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson owners are on pins and needles hoping this isn’t an injury that could affect Stafford this season. Coming off his first Superbowl win, Stafford is primed to follow that up with an even more productive season in his second year in the Sean McVay offense.
Takeaway
This is not what Cam Akers owners want to hear. However, McVay’s starting running backs have always had over a 60%+ snap share which ranks in the top tier on NFL teams. We shall see if this is just camp speak to get them competing.
