Buy-Low Dynasty Assets
~ Tennessee Titans ~

3. Jonnu Smith
Unfortunately, as Old Tom sits down to write up this take I’m not able to solidify my cemented belief in Mr. Smith with any 2019 end-of-the-year rankings, worthy of your time. The TE17 (STD) and the TE20 (PPR) don’t scream much value. 35 total catches for 439 yards aren’t numbers I’m usually excited to invest in. I get it, my friends. I really do. However, I’d also like to follow this up with a very strong opinion on #81 in Tennessee. This freshly turned 25-year old freak of an athlete is a future superstar. I mean, if nothing else he is at least quite the physical specimen.
https://twitter.com/dynastysociety_/status/1295154447899713537At 6’3 248lbs, Mr. Smith is taking that 4.62 40-yard-time (88th percentile) and molding it with an 82nd percentile catch radius, 84th percentile speed score, and a 94th percentile burst score. What do all those numbers ultimately mean for an individual? Well, for this specific one it translates to being very gifted with the ball in his hands:
As we continue to look towards the future with this series, you’d be foolish to overlook Tennessee’s newly-cemented TE1. Don’t get me wrong, I fully understand that Delanie Walker was already more or less non-existent last year. Many arguments could be made around this fact, and ultimately Smith’s ability to barely crack the top-20, at his respected position. Nonetheless, as I’ve said many times over, this position takes time. With Delanie fully gone, we find ourselves freeing up 193 additional offensive snaps as well as 19.46% of the offensive snaps. Numbers, Old Tom finds a lot of excitement around.
Finally, while Jonnu may not have posted any of the sexy finishes, on the fantasy relevance front, according to Pro Football Focus, he was still able to crack the top-10, at his position in: receiving yards after the catch, receiving yards after contact, missed tackles forced on receptions, receiving yards per reception, and also yards per route run among tight ends with 25-plus targets.
So, do yourself a favor my friends, and go snatch this man up. Before his price tag skyrockets post 2020.

2. A.J. Brown
There’s something unique about this Tennessee Titans ball club. It appears that they are all molded from the same cloth as the demi-gods of ancient Greece:
When it comes to A.J. Brown, there’s no denying he’s as physically gifted as any before him. When you couple this reality with the production he was able to accomplish, in really a fairly limited role (68% offensive snap share), it shouldn’t be any big surprise that you’ll find your saliva glands working overtime. Arguably, the biggest knock Old Tom has heard when it comes to Mr. Brown is the unsustainability of his rookie-year production. I’ve always found these arguments kind of funny. Like a double-edged sword, if you will. We love what you did but don’t be too great or I’ll convince myself it’s a mirage, type of mindset. I wonder if similar thoughts were had back in 2011:
You know what? I’m not falling for it. Not only did A.J. pass the written test, but he aced the eye-test. Which, if I’m being completely honest with you, has always been Old Tom’s most trusted assessment. With that all said, potentially my favorite argument for #11 is what he was able to do when he was finally given a true WR1 workload. From weeks 12 on Brown saw himself active on 86% of the offensive plays, as compared to 59% across the season’s first 10 contests. What was the result, you ask? Well, I’m so glad you asked. During this stretch, A.J. Brown finished as your WR2, a mere 9.7 points removed from Michael Thomas as your top WR producer.
Go buy, now!

1. Derrick Henry
The nice thing about some of these takes is that they simply write themselves. Now, I’m sure you’re wondering why in the world I’ve placed a 26-year old RB who has logged 804 professional carries, in four years, as my #1 Tennessee Titans buy-low dynasty asset. That’s fair. However, if that’s the case, then you just simply don’t know Old Tom as well as I’d like. Over and over and over again I’ve continued to pound the table on the reality that my dynasty philosophy is much more win-now oriented than most. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not oblivious to the future and what that entails. But, I will also be damned if I’m ever going to enter a season removed from the possibility of hoisting that championship trophy.
With all that out in the open, Mr. Henry found himself bumped to this #1 slot back on July 15th, 2020. On this date in history, the Tennessee Titans and their star RB agreed to a four-year $50 million contract that included $25.5 million in guaranteed moolah (Now’s not the time to point out the Titans’ potential out after 2022). With this transaction, Old Tom felt every bone in my body tingle with what this reality meant for my dynasty shares. Additionally, I felt quite the spark to begin my journey of acquiring Henry at every possible turn. Why? Well…let me just show you:
It’s that simple, my friends. Derrick Henry is so very good at the football. While no one is arguing the fact it took him a few years to hit elite status, that point is now irrelevant to the present situation. Now, with everything I’ve just said and shown you, here’s the best part of it all. There are still a good many Henry-owners who, for whatever reason, can’t seem to consent to the notion that Derrick Henry is a terrific dynasty asset. Old Tom’s advice, if you find yourself in a league with someone like this, is to act yesterday. Good luck to you all.
